    The School of Dentistry has an outstanding opportunity for a Human Resources Manager to join their team.** **POSITION PURPOSE

    The School of Dentistry Human Resources Office (UWSOD HR) is a shared services unit—within the School of Dentistry (UWSOD)—responsible for the development, implementation, communication, review, and approval of human resources business processes and best practices as they relate to personnel within the UWSOD. UWSOD HR works collaboratively with the eight academic departments and a number of clinical operations and administrative teams within UWSOD and the University of Washington Human Resources (a central administrative unit) to meet the needs of the UWSOD departments and units and ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies.     The Human Resource Manager has responsibility for employee relations issues regarding faculty and staff and is expected to exercise independent judgment and discretion to resolve their issues. The Human Resource Manager works closely with the University's central Human Resources and Academic Personnel and Faculty offices and is responsible for providing advice and counseling for interpreting and implementing all University and School of Dentistry HR policies and procedures impacting employee relations. The Human Resources Manager advises staff and faculty supervisors, and other staff and faculty members concerning HR employee relations matters. The successful candidate will possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

     

    **DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES** Human Resource Management and Leadership (70%)

    • Work closely with the Department Chairs, Administrators, Managers, Supervisors, Directors and other unit leadership to provide proactive human resources problem prevention through consultation, employee counseling and conducting information training sessions regarding human resources best practices.

    • Ensure compliance with institutional policy, with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Washington state law and respond to requests for reasonable accommodation including coordination of accommodation requests.

    • Provide information to employees regarding complaint resolution options. Provide guidance to managers and supervisors regarding employee complaints. Conduct or assist managers with investigations to resolve allegations and work with parties towards resolution of employee complaints or negotiate settlements.

    • Review promotions, in-grade salary increases, reclassifications and other salary/position changes and make recommendations concerning their approval.

    • Advise staff and faculty on University and employment union rules and regulations on staff hiring decisions, lay-offs, and disciplinary actions. Work with School leadership, staff and faculty and UWHR staff in ensuring a positive outcome to work performance issues by coordinating training and proactively soliciting input.

    • Provide training for Department Chairs, Administrators, Managers, Supervisors, and Directors on relevant topics including performance management, leaves, accommodations under the ADA, etc.

    • Provide school-level new employee orientation.

    • Conduct exit interviews for staff and faculty.

    Administration of Policy/Procedures (20%)

    • Provide advice on academic and staff personnel policies and procedures (e.g. University of Washington rules and regulations, Washington Administrative Code, FMLA/family medical leave use, WA State Family Care Act, Paid FML, grievances, performance problems, corrective disciplinary action, layoff procedures, etc.)

    • Advise Chairs, Administrators, Managers, Supervisors, and Directors on institutional hiring practices for faculty, staff and students and ensure policies are followed. Provide counsel on reclassifications, promotions, and salary adjustments. Collaborate with hiring managers on developing position descriptions.

    • Administer faculty sabbatical leave.

    Workday Roles (10%)

    • Act as a back-up Named Support Contact to perform all functions associated with Workday Roles of HCM Initiate 1, HCM Initiate 2, some functions of the HR Partner Role including roles as HCM 2,Time and Absence Initiate for the School, assisting with supervisory organization changes and security role assignments for staff and faculty, entering changes to compensation and FTE, and monitoring and tracking all leave types not limited to sick time off, vacation time off, FMLA, leaves of absence, shared leave, parental leave, and leave without pay.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources or Business Administration, or related field

    • 4 to five years of progressively responsible HR experience including employee relations
