Position Summary
At Stony Brook Medicine, the Administrative Director of Patient Throughput will oversee daily operations of the Centralized Throughput Office, a 24/7 centralized bed management and flow hub. This includes, but is not limited to, bed coordination assignment, daily planning for predicted admissions, management of beds during surges in patient volume, the patient callback center, and coordination of daily discharge huddles. This includes overseeing staff, developing budgets, creating policies and procedures related to patient flow, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and required submissions.
The Administrative Director of Patient Throughput will drive process improvement projects in collaboration with multiple departments to drive efficiency and communication. They will lead the CTO POD and HRU committees, coordinate process improvement projects with the help of the Quality Improvement Department and continually drive throughput improvements to ensure timely and efficient movement of patients from admission to discharge, minimizing bottlenecks and improving overall patient care.
This role is responsible for implementing and maintaining systems to track patient movement in real-time as the key IT liaison. The Administrative Director of Patient Throughput will participate and play a key role in emergency management planning and exercises to manage flow during critical events.
A successful Administrative Director of Patient Throughput will possess superior communication and leadership skills to ensure excellent collaboration between the organization’s Leadership, Quality, and Care Management teams. They will coordinate with the other acute care hospitals in the SBM system to facilitate and expedite safe transfers and improve coordinated bed management. They will lead, develop and implement strategies to reduce length of stay, improve resource utilization, and enhance the patient experience.
Duties of an Administrative Director of Patient Throughput may include the following but are not limited to:
+ Meet regularly with Medical Director of the CTO, AVP of Operations of the CTO and AVP of Nursing of the CTO.
+ Ensure daily functioning and staffing of the CTO and call back center.
+ Lead the CTO POD and HRU meetings in collaboration with the QI department.
+ Manage QI/PI projects as they relate to throughput in collaboration with the QI department.
+ Resolve operational issues related to patient flow and investigate safety concerns.
+ Manage data analytics as related to throughput.
Required Qualifications:
+ Bachelor's degree with 10 years of healthcare experience, 5 of which are in an administrative/supervisory capacity or Associate's degree with twelve years healthcare experience, 5 of which are in an administrative/supervisor capacity.
+ At least 5 years of experience in patient throughput/capacity management
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Master’s degree in a healthcare related field
+ Advanced certification
+ Project management experience
+ Experience with data analytics, quality management and performance improvement

Anticipated Pay Range:
The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position is - $116733 - $153875 / year.
The above salary range represents SBUH’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. The specific salary offer will be based on the candidate’s validated years of comparable experience. Any efforts to inflate or misrepresent experience are grounds for disqualification from the application process or termination of employment if hired.
