    Job Summary

    Bowdoin College is seeking a Groundskeeper to help maintain the campus grounds and ensure that all assigned areas meet the College’s standards for aesthetics and safety.

    Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

    + Performing groundskeeping tasks using gas-powered and handheld equipment, tools, and machinery

    + Ensuring assigned areas consistently meet aesthetic and safety standards

    + Operating and performing general maintenance on College vehicles and machines (e.g., trucks, vans, sweepers, riding mowers)

    + Assisting with ice arena maintenance as needed

    + Demonstrating responsibility for workplace safety by practicing safe and effective work habits, following safety programs and protocols, recognizing and reporting hazards, and using appropriate personal protective equipment ( PPE )

    Compensation:

    + Hourly rate for this position is $19.05 per hour (this role is eligible for overtime and shift differentials)

    + New employees at Bowdoin will receive a $500 Sign-Bonus (½ paid at first check and ½ paid after 90 days of eligibility requirements are met).

    Education/Skills Requirements

    + Some high school education required; High school diploma or GED preferred

    + A valid driver’s license and the ability to comply with the College’s Motor Vehicle Use Policy

    + Ability to communicate and relate well with a variety of people both on and off campus

    + Ability to follow instructions and work independently with minimal supervision

    + Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining aesthetic and safety standards

    + Physical stamina and strength to perform tasks and lift/move heavy objects

    + Ability to collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to departmental and College goals

    + Ability to be punctual and maintain regular attendance

    Experience Requirements and/or Equivalents

    + Entry level role; no prior experience required

    + Six months of related work experiencehighly preferred

    + Experience operating mid compact tractorshighly preferred

    Standard Work Days and Hours

    + This is an onsite, full-time year round, working 40 hours/52 weeks (1.0 FTE )

    + The regular work schedule is Monday to Friday from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Evening and weekend shifts may be required during special events or periods of high seasonal demand

    + This position requires 24/7 on-call availability during emergencies
