Description
The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI) is hiring a Java Application Test Engineer to join our Astronomer’s Proposal Tool (APT) team.
_Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV)._
This position requires US Citizenship or Permanent Residence to meet ITAR requirements.
**The annual salary range for this level role is $90,000 - $106,500.** The posted salary range represents a general guideline; however, STScI considers several factors when determining base salary offers, such as internal pay equity, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's experience, education, and skill, and current market conditions.

We are hiring a Java Application Test Engineer to join our Astronomer’s Proposal Tool team (APT) in Proposal Definition Tools Branch. Test Engineers collaborate closely with developers to support the APT, a Java application used by astronomers worldwide and by STScI operations staff to develop, plan, and implement science programs for our observatories, Hubble, James Webb and the Roman space telescopes and future observatories.
Responsibilities include:
Working in a small Agile setting, you will:
+ Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand software requirements and design comprehensive test plans, define test objectives, scope, and testing strategies for various software projects.
+ Develop and execute manual and automated test cases to identify software defects, conduct thorough testing to ensure comprehensive coverage of functional and non-functional requirements.
+ Participate in the identification and documentation of software defects, working closely with developers to ensure timely resolution of identified issues.
+ Collaborate with the development team to integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline.
+ Develop and maintain automated test scripts for continuous testing and deployment.
Qualifications & Requirements** **:
BS/BA in a relevant field, such Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related scientific or technical field and 5+ years of test engineer experience, including:
+ Designing comprehensive test plans, defining test objectives, scope, and testing strategies for various software projects
+ Identification and documentation of software defects
+ Development, integration, and maintenance of automated test scripts for continuous testing and deployment
+ Effective communication and interpersonal skills
+ Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers / collaborators
+ Strong organizational and planning skills and time management
