    Position DescriptionInstruct students in the specific area of their specialty; help students learn subject matter and skills that will broaden their learning experiences and contribute to their development, enabling them to meet high expectations. Communicate with parents, create a classroom environment conducive to learning, and participate in professional development. Windham Public Schools is a welcoming learning environment that prepares all students for college and career. All educators must be excited about working with diverse populations and eager to collaborate with colleagues.Essential Functions:

     

    + Adhere to the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility

    + Ensures the safety of students

    + Implements the Windham Board of Education and administrative policies, rules, regulations, and directives

    + Manage classroom and individual student behavior to maintain a positive learning environment.

    + Prepares lesson plans that achieve clear objectives, uses appropriate techniques, and serves the needs of all learners in the classroom

    + Maintains accurate and complete records as required

    + Attends parent/teacher conferences

    + Assess student learning continually and identify areas of intervention if needed.

    + Follow the scope and sequence of the instructional program as defined and approved by the Windham Board of Education.

    + Maintains respect for confidential information

    + Keeps parents up-to-date on student progress through the use of interim reports, report cards, and/or conferences

    + Design instruction to meet the needs of all students through both individual and small group settings as needed

    + Design clear and specific learning assessments.

    + Maintain a positive learning environment that encourages open communication between the teacher and learner.

    + Maintain a positive school community image that encourages ethical student behavior.

    + Maintain ongoing communication with parents

    + Other duties as assigned by Administrator and/or Superintendent

    Other Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Assist in the selection of textbooks, equipment, and other educational materials

    + Establish and maintain professional relationships

    + Participate in professional learning by attending seminars and workshops to enhance instructional practices and positively impact student achievement.

    Qualifications/Certificates:

    + Bilingual(Spanish/English) preferred.

    + Active subject matter certificate as required by the Connecticut State Department of Education

    + CT Certification (305) Elementary, 1-6

    + Experience working with a diverse student demographic

    + Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Windham Board of Education may find appropriate

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    + Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management

    + Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing

    + Practical, active listening skills

    + Ability to work effectively with others

    + Organizational and problem-solving skills

    + Excellent public relations skills
