The California-Pacific-Northwest AI Hardware Hub (Northwest-AI-Hub,https://nw-ai-hub.org) was funded in 2023 by the Microelectronics Commons (https://microelectronicscommons.org) program of the U.S. Department of Defense. The Northwest-AI-Hub is an infrastructure of physical and virtual facilities with the mission to serve regional and national needs for lab-to-fab transition of AI hardware technologies. Academia and industry partners collectively accelerate lab-to-fab transition and system demonstration at scale, bridging the “valley of death” to ensure the commercial viability of the Hub's innovations.
The Communications Specialist will design and execute communication deliverables in accordance with the priorities set by the program sponsor and the Hub Central Office. Reporting to the Hub Associate Director, the Communications Specialist will be an integral member of the Hub Central Office. Core job duties include coordinating the collection of program updates from partner institutions (currently including UC Berkeley, UC Davis, Oregon State University, University of Washington, and University of Hawaii), creating communication pieces to promote Hub activities and events, designing communication materials including presentation slides and brochures, and maintaining communication channels which include the Hub website and social media. The Communications Specialist will also attend regular weekly meetings of the Hub Central Office, assist in Hub event organization and promotion, and evaluate and select external vendors.
In this role, you will:
+ Participate in development of communication deliverables for the Northwest-AI-Hub
+ Develop communications of moderate complexity for various content delivery channels
+ Produce materials according to defined requirements using software such as Microsoft PowerPoint and Adobe Illustrator
+ Work with vendors to obtain information to evaluate quality, process, and costs to support vendor selection
+ Maintain knowledge by attending regular Hub meetings, ad hoc meetings, and events
+ Compile data, photos, and pictures for assignments
+ Work in collaboration with institutional Communicators on media relations content and other areas
Education & Experience (Required):
+ Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience or combination of education and relevant experience.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities (Required):
+ Excellent written and oral communication skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively with internal communications groups across campus.
+ Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills.
+ Capacity to synthesize materials and communicate information in a manner easily understood.
+ Experience with managing projects to specifications and to meet expected deadlines.
+ Ability to perform detailed work with high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Education & Experience (Desired):
+ College coursework in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
+ Strong analytical skills, with the ability to synthesize complex information and present it clearly and effectively.
+ Familiarity with communication tools and platforms commonly used in higher education is a plus.
+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Working Conditions:
+ Occasional work on evenings and weekends.
Physical Requirements:
+ Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.
+ Frequently stand/walk, sit, use a telephone, grasp lightly/fine manipulation, speaking.
+ Occasionally grasp forcefully, writing by hand.
+ Rarely sort/file paperwork.

Pay Range:
The expected pay range for this position is $90,174 to $109,773 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
