    Responsibilities*

    + Direct, coordinate, and oversee the day-to-day operation of the Linen Distribution department

    + Provides direct supervision of staff including interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, orientation, evaluation, adherence to mandatory training requirements, delivery schedules, employee attendance, discipline, monitoring of effectiveness of employee work completion, and termination.

    + Accurately maintains and approves employee time keeping systems and records in accordance with institutional and all regulatory requirements.

    + Maintain open, honest, and timely communication with all stakeholders, both internal and external.

    + Meet periodically with Nurse Managers to discuss inventory levels for unit specific use and adjust as required using financial analysis and actual usage information as data substantiation.

    + Actively seek to identify, and participate in, process improvement activities including A3 development

    + Promote environment of safety amongst team members

    + Act as department representative at daily institutional Safety Huddles, report service-related issues to linen and follow up on corrective actions in response to any linen-related safety concerns

    + Maintain the overall responsibility for institutional Lab Coat Program, including supervision of Lab Coat Room Attendant.

    + Oversee and verify daily billing for linen distributed to customers.

    + Maintain all logs timely and accurately

    + Monitors productivity standards/control systems for responsible processes, interprets this information and exercises action as appropriate to ensure maximum work efficiency; communicates findings, and suggested improvement/resolutions, to manager.

    + Interface with Environmental Services for coordination of removal of soiled linen from hospital on a timely basis.

    + Interface with cooperative laundry service for receiving, returns, quality concerns, and service concerns.

    + Conduct weekly staff huddles to provide feedback on operational as well as financial performance.

    + Promote a working environment noted for effective cooperation and collaboration between programs, services, and co-workers.

    + Contribute to stabilization of the operation through the development & implementation of standardized work instructions.

    + Maintain accurate employee training records.

    + Supervises staff in compliance with bargained for agreements and contracts

    + Direct Associate Supervisors’ daily functions of interacting with customers and employees for the purpose of ensuring overall service level satisfaction.

    Required Qualifications*

    + Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent with some college or institutional courses a plus.

    + A minimum of 3 years of supervisory or proven lead experience in an environment that requires logistics knowledge.

    + Experience in direct supervision of at least 10 employees.

    + Excellent customer service skills.

    + Demonstrated competency in Excel and Outlook.

    + Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

    + Ability to quickly address difficult/emergent situations in a professional and confidential manner.

    + Ability to prioritize tasks to meet competing deadlines

    + Demonstrate a continuous improvement mindset.

    + Managerial courage demonstrated through effective, direct, and respectful communication.

    + Able to communicate professionally in English, both verbally and in writing.

    + Ability to monitor and evaluate program and organizational performance to assess efficiency and effectiveness.

    + Ability to maintain records and prepare reports.

    + Ability to work under stressful conditions and/or irregular hours.

    + Ability to lift 50lbs from ground-level.

    + Ability to lift 20lbs overhead.

    + Ability to push wheeled carts weighing up to 400lbs.

    + Frequent bending, twisting, & reaching, including overhead.

    + Must be able to ascend/descend step ladders.

    + Must be able to grab and grasp.

    + Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.

    Desired Qualifications*

    + Previous supervisory experience in a union setting.

    + Previous experience in a distribution environment.

    + Knowledge of Michigan Medicine clinical areas.

    + Familiar with University of Michigan’s SPGs.

    + Comfortable entering information into Michigan Medicine’s PolicyStat.

    + Knowledge of training and supervising techniques.

    + Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work.

    + Knowledge of labor relations and applicable AFSCME union contracts.

    + Knowledge of equal employment opportunity policies and procedures.

    + Knowledge of PDCA cycles

    + Experience managing inventory and order fulfillment in PeopleSoft

    + Experience authoring A3s and SBARs

    + Completed Michigan Medicine’s HRO Leadership Skills training

     

    Work Schedule

     

    Schedule Saturday-Sunday 5:30am-2:30pm-Monday-uesday 6:30am-5:30pm

     

    Must be available to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed. May be required to work overtime with short notice as operations require.

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third-party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
