Job Description
We’re looking for a master’s-level professional in counseling, social work, or psychology who can work independently to provide vital mental health support. You’ll be helping people in crisis at the University Health Hospital Hill Emergency Department and emergency shelters, offering quick assessments, emergency interventions, and referrals. You might also assist with case management at homeless shelters. This role requires 24/7 availability on a rotating schedule.
Job Responsibilities
• Empower clients to lead independent lives by building their self-esteem, decision-making, and assertiveness skills.
• Build strong, respectful relationships with clients, families, and community supports to share important information effectively.
• Use assessments to understand and respond to clients’ needs and goals.
• Guide clients to local resources and help them access support services.
• Develop collaborative care plans tailored to each individual’s unique needs, involving their friends, family, and community.
• Pursue your own professional growth and share knowledge with your team.
• Advocate for clients, addressing challenges related to rights, legal issues, and finances.
• Support clients in career and education goals by connecting them with relevant resources.
• Apply crisis prevention and intervention techniques suited to each situation.
• Follow all department guidelines and complete your work professionally and on time.
• Promote quality care, safety, and cultural respect within the team and with patients.
• Provide age-appropriate care that meets patients’ physical, emotional, and educational needs.
• Maintain a professional and courteous demeanor with patients, families, and staff.
• Stay up-to-date on all compliance regulations and participate in required training.
What We’re Looking For
• Master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field.
• 1-2 years of experience in social services.
• Strong knowledge of psychiatric terms, mental health conditions, and community resources.
• Skilled in human services theory and practice at the master’s level.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse populations.
• Commitment to completing training and continuing education.
