    About the Dream Center:

    The Dream Center at The University of Utah Student Affairs Division supports the holistic development of all students, including undocumented students and those systematically impacted by immigration, empowering them to thrive both at the university and beyond.

    Job Summary:

    The Dream Center Graduate Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the mission of holistically serving undocumented students, with and without DACA , in higher education. This position provides key support in administrative duties, day-to-day operations, student services, and programmatic efforts across the Dream Center.

     

    The Graduate Assistant will meet one-on-one with students to provide non-academic advisement focused on navigating post-college pathways, including career exploration, graduate school preparation, and entrepreneurship. They will also support students in getting involved with on- and off-campus opportunities and navigating personal and interpersonal challenges such as family dynamics, roommate issues, and general life circumstances. Warm referrals to campus and community-based resources are a key aspect of this role.

     

    Some programmatic responsibilities include assisting in the development, coordination, and implementation of student-centered events and workshops that support belonging, professional growth, personal empowerment, graduate school readiness, and entrepreneurial exploration. Tasks may involve event planning, logistics, communication, facilitation, and data collection to ensure continuous improvement.

     

    This position is ideal for a graduate student who is compassionate, detail-oriented, and equity-driven, with a strong commitment to student support, advocacy, and holistic success in higher education.

    Responsibilities

    Graduate Assistant Key Responsibilities Include:

    + Meet one-on-one with undocumented students to offer personalized guidance around post-college planning, including career goals, graduate school, and entrepreneurship.

    + Support students in navigating personal and life challenges such as family dynamics, roommate concerns, and overall well-being.

    + Provide students with connections to helpful resources on campus and in the community.

    + Support the planning, coordination, and execution of Dream Center programming, including events, workshops, and cohort-based activities.

    + Develop engaging digital content using Canva for flyers, social media graphics, and event promotions.

    + Maintain a consistent and relevant presence across Dream Center social media platforms to increase student awareness, engagement, and participation.

    + Contribute to communication strategies including content scheduling, email follow-ups, and outreach campaigns.

    + Manage administrative tasks including scheduling appointments, tracking data, maintaining records, and preparing materials.

    + Assists Associate Director and/or other staff with preparation of reports. Update and maintenance of information, databases, etc., necessary for reporting.

    + Attend staff meetings and collaborate with the team to ensure a supportive, responsive, and welcoming environment for students.

    + Continually communicate with Dream team about projects, events, responsibilities, and concern, ask for help when needed

    + Other duties as assigned to support the overall mission and operational needs of the Dream Center.

    Terms of Graduate Assistantship:

    Work 20 hours per week throughout the academic year with consistent fixed office hours, including occasional evening and weekends

     

    Attend regular staff meetings

     

    Adhere to all university and departmental policies

     

    Professionally represent the Dream Center and articulate its mission, goals, and resources

     

    May be asked to adjust working hours to reflect necessary organizational needs. Some nights and weekends may be included

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Must be a University of Utah student pursuing a graduate degree: Master’s, Ed.D, Ph,D or related. A Master’s degree and previous experience working in student center or educational experience; counseling, community building, or advising encouraged.

    + Passionate and eager to empower current and future undocumented students (with and without DACA ) at the University of Utah

    + Strong interpersonal skills and comfort with public speaking

    + Ability to work effectively individually with little supervision and collaborate to achieve goals in a team

    + Understand the sensitive of the needs of undocumented students and their families

    + Indicate university policies and procedures that directly relate to student, safety, privacy and confidentiality

    + Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Publisher; Outlook, Google; Internet and basic computer knowledge.

    + Ability to work independently and as a team.

     

    Preferences

     

    + Knowledge of immigration related legislation and policies (institutional, local & national)

    + Knowledge of University of Utah advising systems and processes

    + Knowledge of undocumented students, with and without DACA and or immigration-impacted communities
