Overview
The Operational Strategy & Execution Portfolio Manager plays a key role in driving forward critical initiatives across the health system. Reporting to the Vice President of Operational Strategy & Execution, this position is responsible for coordinating and managing efforts that support the strategic operational priorities of the Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), and Chief Nursing Executive (CNE). This individual will help ensure that high-priority, dynamic operational initiatives are planned, tracked, and executed with discipline. The Portfolio Manager will work cross-functionally with clinical and operational teams, support initiative governance and communications, and assist in monitoring progress against key goals. The ideal candidate is a strategic-minded, detail-oriented, organized, and highly self-motivated professional with strong analytical, communication, and project coordination skills—someone who thrives in a fast-paced, mission-driven and highly matrixed healthcare environment.
Responsibilities
+ Opportunity and Initiative Development: Partner with clinical and operational leaders to scope and structure new initiatives, helping to translate complex or ambiguous concepts into well-defined projects aligned with enterprise goals and the priorities of the COO, CMO, and CNE.
+ End-to-End Operational Priority Management: Lead the planning, implementation, and tracking of key initiatives, including the development of project charters, workplans, timelines, risk mitigation strategies, and stakeholder engagement plans.
+ Strategic Support and Analysis: Conduct research, gather internal data, and synthesize insights to inform project direction, frame recommendations, and support executive decision-making.
+ Cross-Functional Execution: Drive coordination across clinical, operational, and support teams to ensure aligned implementation, track interdependencies, and proactively address risks or barriers to progress.
+ Progress Monitoring and Accountability: Develop and maintain project tracking tools, KPIs, dashboards, and status updates to monitor progress and promote accountability across workstreams.
+ Executive-Level Communication: Prepare high-quality presentations, reports, and updates for senior leaders, clearly communicating objectives, progress, challenges, and strategic implications.
+ Governance and Facilitation: Support initiative governance by preparing materials, facilitating meetings, documenting key decisions, and ensuring timely follow-through on next steps.
+ Continuous Improvement and Operational Readiness: Identify opportunities to improve portfolio management practices and help ensure that initiatives are transitioned effectively into sustainable operations.
+ Cross-Functional and Stakeholder Collaboration Collaborate proactively with both internal and external stakeholders—including the Transformation Office, Strategy Office, Finance, LCAR, IT, vendors, and other key partners—to drive alignment on system priorities. Ensure coordination across functions to support adherence to established processes and contractual obligations. Identify and manage interdependencies, overlaps, and risks to enable seamless execution and integration of initiatives. Foster transparent communication and shared accountability to support successful outcomes.
Required Qualifications
+ M.A./M.S. degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, or related field
+ 3–7 years of experience in healthcare operations, project/portfolio management, strategy, or consulting.
+ Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and timelines in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
+ Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
+ Comfortable working both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
+ 10+ years of experience in healthcare operations, project/portfolio management, strategy, or consulting.
+ Experience with project tracking tools (e.g., Smartsheet, Monday.com, or similar)
+ Familiarity with healthcare systems or academic medical centers
+ Hospital operations, nursing, provider or other clinical experience
+ Project management and process improvement degrees or certifications including but not limited to PMP, Lean methodologies, CMQ/OE, change management
+ Highly organized and attentive to detail.
+ Proactive and solution-oriented, with a “can-do” attitude.
+ Curious and eager to learn in a complex healthcare environment.
+ Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills.
+ Committed to improving healthcare delivery through structured execution and continuous improvement.

Compensation Disclaimer
The posted pay range is for a 40-hour workweek (1.0 FTE). The actual rate of pay offered within this range may depend on several factors, such as FTE, skills, knowledge, relevant education, experience, and market conditions. Additionally, our organization values pay equity and considers the internal equity of our team when making any offer. Hiring at the maximum of the range is not typical. If your role is eligible for a sign-on bonus, the bonus program that is approved and in place at the time of offer, is what will be honored.
