Project Engineer
Job Summary:
The Project Engineer (PE) works as part of the Tecomet Engineering Team, leading the process development and manufacturing of orthopedic joint replacement/implant devices and specialized aerospace components using the forging and CNC machining manufacturing processes and high-performance alloys including titanium, cobalt-chrome, and stainless steel. Tecomet’s work improves thousands of lives every year and keeps the World moving.
The PE position is responsible for managing the development and improvement of products from quote development and production qualification thru the successful transition into manufacturing control at the cost, volume, and quality required by Tecomet’s customers. This position works with the Tecomet commercial and product management groups to determine product costing, support customers’ needs within the organization, and provides feedback on the manufacturability of new and existing products. The role requires the above to be driven in the spirit of lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, and industry best practices for manufacturing and quality to support best in class, customer experience.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Acts as primary technical interface to all assigned customers. New programs as well as existing production process improvement and technical matters shall be supported.
+ Coordinates and drives customer and departmental inquiries/requests related to engineering and manufacturing process changes and improvements for new and existing programs.
+ Develops and delivers technical presentations required for new program quotation processes. Technical presentations include product and process overview, costing, and design review, demonstrating design conformance to customer’s requirements.
+ Assists in the development of capital expenditure requests to support new programs and process improvements.
+ Provides commercial, cost accounting and executive management teams, technical data, baseline processes, bill of material, costing, margin and quote data for new and existing programs, as needed.
+ Responsible for the coordination of technical data (e.g., CAD, material and quality specifications, process requirements and other relevant data) to internal stakeholders to ensure new program launch or process improvement is successful as measured by on time delivery, quality and financial performance.
+ Responsible for the overall success of the new and existing programs as measured by key project deliverables and profitability.
+ Schedules and leads new program overview meeting, new program detail reviews and job start-up meetings. Attends production meetings as needed to monitor new programs.
+ Investigates new processing techniques.
+ Supports product and tooling outsourcing initiatives with technical input and schedule monitoring along with procurement department.
+ Has a strong working knowledge of process design and proactively pursues cost saving initiatives on responsible programs.
+ Visits customer & supplier sites as required.
+ Works well under pressure and remains flexible to changing priorities and day to day activities.
+ Performs other duties or special projects as required or as assigned by supervisor.
Educational/Training Requirement:
+ Bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred, Associate’s degree (A.A.) and/or Certification Program from an accredited college or technical school is required; 3 plus years of project leadership experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience:
+ Project leadership experience leading cross-functional teams
+ Manufacturing process, cost modeling and quote, development
+ ERP software usage
+ CAD solid modeling experience
+ Manufacturing experience (CNC machining, hot forging, molding or related)
Licenses/Certifications:
+ PMI Certification (preferred)
+ Lean Manufacturing Certification, SSBB, SSGB, SSYB, etc. (preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
+ Project leadership, presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills
+ Quote and costing development for manufacturing using ERP software
+ 3D CAD solid modeling techniques (NX preferred)
+ Knowledge of CNC machining and CMM inspection, equipment and software
+ Knowledge of mathematical analysis software (Minitab, MATLAB, Mathematica)
+ Ability to read technical drawings and interpret geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T)
+ Knowledge of manufacturing processes including CNC machining and forging
+ Knowledge of inspection equipment
+ Knowledge of SPC, FMEA, DOE, Six Sigma, or 8D
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
