    Your role and responsibilities

     

    IBM is seeking a seasoned Data & AI Engineer to support our mission in the Defense sector.

     

    This role requires deep expertise in advanced technologies and federal data systems.

    The ideal candidate will bring:

    • Proficiency in GraphRAG (including multi-modal applications), Semantic Web, and Generative AI (GenAI) capabilities

    • Strong foundation in Data Engineering and Enterprise Data Management best practices

    • Demonstrated experience with DoD financial processes, procurement data, and platforms such as ADVANA

     

    This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative data solutions that support national defense priorities.

     

    Candidate must reside in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, or Northern Virginia (DMV) area.

    Required technical and professional expertise

    • Implement GraphRAG solutions, ontologies, and tools like Databricks using Python (NumPy, Pandas, PySpark), SQL, Scala, and SPARQL to prepare and connect data for AI at scale.

    • Serve as a SME in DoD financial systems and data interfaces, with deep knowledge of procurement data and platforms like ADVANA.

    • Apply expertise in Graph-Based AI and ML (Neural Networks, Graph Transformers, NetworkX) to drive Defense sector initiatives.

    • Design and deploy GenAI and Agentic frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph, Hugging Face, CrewAI) and ML solutions (TensorFlow, Keras, PyTorch, Spark NLP).

    • Stay current and apply best practices in Semantic Web, GenAI, Data Engineering, and AI/ML toolkits (SpaCy, Scikit-learn, Neo4j, AWS GovCloud, Google FedRamp) for scalable, secure, and explainable solutions.

     

    Active DoD Secret Clearance Required

    Preferred technical and professional experience

    • Proven experience as a Data & AI Engineer with strong Data Engineering expertise, including programming in Python, SQL, Scala, and SPARQL, and working with knowledge graphs and AI/ML frameworks.

    • In-depth knowledge of GraphRAG (including multi-modal applications), Semantic Web technologies (OWL, RDF, SPARQL), GenAI capabilities, and both Federated and Enterprise Data Management.

    • Subject matter expertise in DoD Financials and Procurement systems, including PIEE, ADVANA, Defense ERP Interfaces, MOCAS, FPDS, FAADC, and contracting systems.

    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively across cross-functional teams.

    • Strong ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
