Job Summary and Qualifications
Position summary
The medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team and has knowledge of the overall radiation treatment equipment and procedures performed in external and brachytherapy irradiation. The medical dosimetrist must also generate 3-D computer plans and dose calculations in collaboration with the medical physicist and radiation oncologist.

+ Must be able to work with precision in aligning the equipment for therapy treatments per the physician’s orders.
+ Must learn the department’s/hospital’s processes and services and participate in improving them to meet the hospital’s patient/customer focus as evidenced by suggestions, reporting occurrences, and team participation.
+ Must have ability to perform cognitive tasks

Position responsibilities:
+ Designs a treatment plan by means of computer and/or manual computation that will deliver a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription to a defined tumor volume
+ Considers dose-limiting structures in the design of treatment plans and document dose in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription
+ Performs or assists in treatment simulations and tumor localization on dedicated devices, including CT and MRI when indicated, for radiation oncology treatment planning
+ Oversees, performs, or assists in the fabrication of bolus, custom shields, wedges, immobilization devices, compensation filters and other such devices
+ Oversees the therapist staff in the implementation of the treatment plan including the correct use of immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field
+ Performs calculations for the accurate delivery of the Radiation Oncologist’s prescribed dose, document all pertinent information in the patient record, both paper and E-chart and verify the mathematical accuracy of all calculations by computer and manual calculation comparison
+ Assists in intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy procedures and in the subsequent manual and/or computer calculation of the dose distributions of these treatments
+ Reports erratic operation of equipment to Physicist and/or Supervisor or to the Radiation Oncologist
+ Operates and performs quality assurance, under the direction of the Medical Physicist, on the treatment planning computer
+ Performs routine duties independent of supervision, but consults with the Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physicist as required
+ Has working knowledge of radiation safety and current rules and regulations of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
+ Assists in orientation of new personnel in department · Performs monthly QA congruency film on Simulator dependent on rotation
+ Processes appropriate charges on patients for physics and dosimetry procedures
+ Understands and satisfies the needs of the patient population appropriate to the age of the patient served (adults, geriatric, adolescent, pediatric, and parents of neonates).
+ Performs other duties as assigned to meet the needs of the department
+ Transports patients as needed
+ Makes follow-up and treatment appointments in electronic schedule as needed
+ Prepares special reports or paperwork when indicated
+ Answers phones as needed
+ Performs holiday and vacation coverage for department as assigned
+ Attend Code of Conduct training course annually
+ Demonstrate an understanding of and adherence to HCA’s Code of Conduct
+ Demonstrates conduct that is reflective of THRH’s commitment to HCA’s Code of Conduct
+ Must Adhere to the Standards of Behavior for Terre Haute Regional Hospital as per the Customer Relations Policy
Essential educational/licensure, skills and experience:
+ Certified Medical Dosimetrist

+ BLS must be maintained throughout employment with Terre Haute Regional Hospital (unless designated as a work from home employee).
