    Are you passionate about communication, community engagement, and lifelong learning? The University of Southern Maine invites applications for a Communications Coordinator to serve the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) and the Maine Senior College Network (MSCN), two vital programs dedicated to enriching the lives of older adults through education and connection. This is a full-time, dual-role position supporting both programs equally (50/50 split).

     

    The Communications Coordinator (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1ELDbbaKxaJYNzfhTkqlK\_-7TM7x6l8W-/view?usp=sharing) plays a key role in shaping and delivering messaging, coordinating public relations and digital outreach, and supporting the overall communications infrastructure of both OLLI and MSCN. From managing websites and newsletters to facilitating Zoom training and providing IT access, this position is essential to our visibility, engagement, and operational success.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Digital Content & Strategy: Manage and update the OLLI and MSCN websites; develop and distribute email newsletters (via Constant Contact); create engaging social media content.

    + Public Relations: Draft press releases and outreach materials; build relationships with media outlets and community partners.

    + Virtual Engagement: Organize and facilitate Zoom meetings for MSCN leaders; provide technical support and training for online courses and meetings.

    + Analytics & Strategy: Monitor communication metrics to refine content strategies; manage member surveys using Qualtrics.

    + Operational Support: Maintain IT security and facility access; process course and event funds; assist with registration systems and public events.

    + Budget & Advocacy: Co-manage the MSCN budget in collaboration with the OLLI Director; represent both programs to statewide agencies and community organizations.

     

    The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (https://usm.maine.edu/osher-lifelong-learning-institute/) and the Maine College Senior Network (https://www.maineseniorcollege.org/) at USM provides non credit, college level courses and enriching programming exclusively for adults aged 50 and older, encouraging intellectual growth, social engagement, and lifelong curiosity. Members also have access to a variety of Special Interest Groups: social, recreational, and discussion-focused gatherings.

     

    This is a full-time position on the Portland campus with occasional nights and weekends, with a starting annual salary of $44,000 with benefits.

    Required Qualifications:

    + Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least two years of experience in communications, public relations, or administrative roles.

    + Proficiency with tools such as WordPress (or equivalent CMS), Constant Contact, Zoom (including Meeting OWLs), and Qualtrics.

    + Strong writing, editing, and interpersonal skills.

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a hybrid environment.
