    Position Summary/Description:

    The Department of Surgery at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a Research Associate Professor position in the Division of Acute Care Surgery. This is a full-time, fixed-term faculty position. We seek a highly motivated individual with a strong research background in trauma, burn injury, critical care, and extracorporeal life support ( ECLS / ECMO ).

     

    The successful candidate will lead and collaborate on translational and clinical research in acute care surgery, critical care, burn injury and trauma. The role includes securing extramural funding, mentoring residents and trainees in research, and contributing to the overall academic mission of the Division. The candidate will work closely with multidisciplinary teams in critical care, surgery, and biomedical research to advance innovations in extracorporeal life support, acute lung injury, and trauma resuscitation.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Develop and lead independent and collaborative research programs in acute care surgery, ECMO , burn surgery and critical care.

    + Secure and manage extramural research funding from federal, industry, and foundation sources.

    + Contribute to the academic and educational mission by mentoring medical students, residents, and postdoctoral trainees.

    + Collaborate with the UNC Health System and broader research community to translate findings into clinical practice.

    + Publish research findings in high-impact scientific journals and present at national and international conferences.

    + Participate in academic service, including committee involvement and professional society engagement.

    + Mentor trainees and serve as Co-PI on T32 Trauma Training Grant

     

    Individuals who exhibit exceptional skills and achievements may be considered for a leadership position within the department of surgery. Leadership roles are not guaranteed and are dependent upon the current needs of our surgical service lines.
