PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Under the direction of the Director of Product Engineering, the Quality Assurance Manager leads a team of Quality Assurance Engineers across all levels and oversees the performance of ICW’s nearshore and offshore QA vendor teams. This role collaborates closely with Software Development Managers, Technical Product Managers, and Solution Architects to ensure high-quality, secure, and reliable digital product delivery across all PODs.
This role will provide hands-on technical leadership, guide test strategy and planning, oversee automation initiatives, and promote QA best practices including shift-left testing, test data management, and CI/CD quality gates. The Quality Assurance Manager is also responsible for mentoring QA team members, driving measurable quality outcomes, supporting professional growth, and modeling ICW’s core competencies for both individual contributors and leaders.
In addition to tactical execution, the QA Manager plays a key strategic role in evolving ICW’s enterprise QA strategy ensuring alignment with organizational goals, continuous process improvement, and fostering a quality-first mindset across cross-functional delivery teams.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides strategic and operational leadership for the QA discipline across product engineering teams.
+ Builds and scales a team of skilled QA Engineers (manual and automation), ensuring effective staffing, onboarding, coaching, and professional development.
+ Establishes and evolves formal QA processes and quality standards in alignment with Agile, DevOps, and SAFe practices.
+ Collaborates with Product Managers, Software Engineers, and Architects to ensure testability, quality, and release readiness.
+ Defines and monitors QA metrics (defect density, test coverage, automation %, etc.) and ensure KPIs are met or exceeded.
+ Drives the implementation and expansion of test automation frameworks, tools, and practices.
+ Partners with Release Management to ensure smooth, well-tested deployments to production.
+ Champions root cause analysis and resolution of quality issues; contributes to Problem Management and Continuous Improvement initiatives.
+ Ensures team alignment with security, compliance, and data governance policies.
+ Stays current on QA tools, technologies, and industry best practices.
+ Owns and evolves the enterprise-wide QA strategy in alignment with ICW’s Digital Product Delivery goals and SAFe framework.
+ Defines and governs quality engineering best practices across all PODs, ensuring consistency in test planning, execution, automation, and reporting.
+ Partners with the Director of Product Engineering to establish guardrails, standards, and tooling that drive automation, shift-left testing, and measurable quality outcomes.
+ Serves as a key contributor to the Architectural Runway and participates in solution design review boards, advocating for testability and defect prevention.
+ Leads the continuous improvement of QA capabilities, test data management, and coverage models through metrics, retrospectives, and innovation.
+ Participates in the Solution Design Review Board to ensure testability, reusable QA patterns, and early-stage quality planning.
+ Partners with the Software Development Manager and Solution Architects to co-own and standardize quality engineering practices, tooling, and test data management across all PODs.
+ Defines, manages, and reports standardized QA metrics across all PODs and teams; contributes to department-level dashboards that align with ICW’s Operational Framework.
+ Ensures coverage and validation of ICW’s Core API stack and shared services through consistent automated and manual testing strategies.
+ Supports onboarding of new engineering teams or vendors into QA processes, tools, and automation platforms.
Manages and leads a team of Quality Assurance professionals.
+ Directly oversees a team of QA Engineers across all levels, providing day-to-day leadership, coaching, and mentorship.
+ Manages vendor-supported QA teams operating in nearshore and offshore locations, ensuring alignment with internal quality standards, schedules, and security requirements.
+ Conducts performance evaluations, develops career progression plans, and drives certification and upskilling initiatives for internal QA staff.
+ Ensures seamless integration and collaboration between internal and external QA resources in a distributed Agile delivery environment.
+ Forecasts staffing needs and resource allocations to ensure consistent coverage across PODs and product initiatives.
SUPERVISORY RESPONISBILITIES
Directly supervises employees within the QA team and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policies and applicable laws. These responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; conducting performance and salary reviews; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems; coaching, mentoring, and developing team members to further their skills and knowledge; creating and monitoring development plans; setting performance expectations/goals; forecasting staffing needs and planning for peak times and absences; enforcing department policies and procedures.
EDUCATION AND EXPERINCE
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required.
+ Minimum 8 years of experience in Quality Assurance or Software Testing roles.
+ Experience in a QA leadership or management capacity, ideally in an Agile/DevOps environment preferred.
+ Experience working within or alongside enterprise-scale Agile (preferably SAFe) delivery organizations.
+ Insurance industry experience is a plus.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
+ Certified Agile Tester (CAT), SAFe Agilist, or SAFe Practitioner required.
+ AWS or Cloud QA certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
+ Must possess deep technical expertise in quality engineering and enterprise software testing practices.
+ Proficient in QA methodologies, SDLC, STLC, and test planning/execution practices.
+ Hands-on experience with automation frameworks such as Selenium, Postman, JUnit, or similar.
+ Solid understanding of test case management and defect tracking tools (e.g., TestRail, JIRA/Xray).
+ Experience testing REST APIs, web applications, and backend systems.
+ Familiarity with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, AWS CodePipeline).
+ Strong knowledge of SQL and data validation practices.
+ Understanding of security testing, performance testing, and cross-browser compatibility testing.
+ Working knowledge of AWS or other cloud environments preferred.
+ Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
+ Must be able to read, write and speak effectively. Ability to effectively organize and present information to all levels of audiences, both internal and external.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The employee may need to sit in front of a computer for a period of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may occasionally need to reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee may need to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in an office environment and requires the frequent use of a computer, telephone, copier, and other standard office equipment.
The current range for this position is
$139,874.00 - $250,377.40
This range is exclusive of fringe benefits and potential bonuses. If hired at ICW Group, your final base salary compensation will be determined by factors unique to each candidate, including experience, education and the location of the role and considers employees performing substantially similar work.
