Position Summary Information
General Summary
TheMaterials Handler II duties include receiving stocking and issuing material and inputting data into the computer inventory system, investigating stock overages/shortages, participating in inventories and cycle counts. The Materials Handler II is responsible for making deliveries to various WSSC Water facilities. Responsibilities include safely operating and performing routine maintenance of powered equipment used to handle a variety of materials used in water and sewer repair and construction; maintenance, cleanliness, organization, and operation of the warehouse yard; and assisting both internal and external customers of WSSC Water.
Essential Functions
+ Duties include receiving stock and issuing material, inputting data into the computer inventory system, investigating stock overages/shortages, and participating in inventory work and cycle counts
+ Operates vehicles requiring a Commercial Driver’s License, including a boom truck/flatbed to make scheduled deliveries, and load and load materials as well as equipment
+ Operates intermediate and heavy powered equipment used in materials handling, including front-end loaders to load or off-load earth, gravel, and other bulk materials, and forklifts used to load and unload material deliveries, including operation of add-ons that may be installed on equipment
+ Adheres to WSSC Water safety regulations established by OSHA and the State of Maryland
+ Performs routine maintenance in cleaning, lubricating, and maintaining powered equipment such as lubricating fittings, inspecting transmission, cooling, engine, and hydraulic levels; and checks brakes, fuel, tires, air cleaners, and the like before operation
+ Maintains warehouse store yard in a clean and orderly condition
+ Assists in routine preventative maintenance on materials stored in the store yard

Work Environment And Physical Demands
+ Perform heavy manual labor that includes the ability to lift up to 100 pounds
+ Ability to stand and work on a concrete floor and/or outside in hot and cold weather for extended periods of time
+ Exposure to dust
Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
+ Ability to perform the work of a Materials Handler I
+ Good knowledge of the safe and efficient operation of one or more types of heavy motor equipment
+ Good knowledge of general and preventative maintenance procedures of a variety of powered equipment
+ Working knowledge of heavy equipment operating capabilities, lifting capabilities, and weights of common construction and maintenance materials
+ Skill in eye, hand, and foot coordination
+ Ability to adhere to OSHA and Maryland State Safety Regulations
+ Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions, technical manuals, traffic regulations, and engineering drawings
Minimum Education, Experience Requirements
+ High School diploma or equivalent
+ 1 year of Materials Handler experience that includes receiving stock & issuing materials, researching stock discrepancies, and performing inventory work
Additional Requirements
+ Possession of a valid driver’s license with no more than 4 points and the ability to obtain a WSSC Water driver’s permit within 90 days of hire or transfer; must maintain driver’s license and permit while in the role
+ Possession of or ability to attain a valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License within 180 days of employment or transfer; must maintain license while in role
+ Must complete and maintain DOT Medical Card
+ Successful completion of WSSC Water Equipment Training Program within 1 year of hire or transfer
+ Employees in this position are designated or considered emergency personnel; therefore, the employee must report to work as scheduled or as directed by their supervisor when WSSC Water declares an event that requires emergency personnel to report to work
Note: Licenses and certifications must be maintained as a mandatory requirement of this position.
