Job Summary / Purpose

Provides efficient hospital communications through the operation of the hospital switchboard and paging system.

Essential Functions

+ Performs all duties related to switchboard activity, i.e. completing incoming calls, paging physicians and hospital personnel, and forwarding messages. Authorizes long distance telephone calls in accordance with established procedures.

+ Responds quickly and accurately to incoming emergency signals and requests for announcing Hospital distress codes. Responsible for knowing appropriate procedures related to emergency situations.

+ Responsible for making necessary announcements daily in accordance with standard procedures.

+ Maintains current “on call” listing and places calls to locate teams needed for emergencies.

+ Responsible for distribution of replacement pagers and batteries and contacting appropriate parties concerning pager malfunctions.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

+ High School Graduate or High School GED required.

+ Work in a hospital setting preferred.

+ Six months to one year switchboard operator experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Training

+ Must have great listening and communication skills.

+ Adequate conversational English is required in order that the individual be able to take direction from management, understand how to complete job tasks, communicate adequately with patients and co-workers as necessary, understand and follow safety guidelines, and organizational policies.

Pay Range

$15.00 - $21.47 /hour
