    Job Summary:

    The Substation Apparatus Technician is responsible for performing inspection, testing, maintenance, and repair of high-voltage substation equipment including circuit breakers, power transformers, instrument transformers, switchgear, and associated components. This role supports the reliability, safety, and performance of utility and industrial substations by ensuring critical apparatus are functioning within operational parameters and standards.

    Who You Are:

    Required:

    + 3+ years of experience performing substation equipment testing and maintenance.

    + Familiarity with substation equipment manufacturers such as ABB, Siemens, GE, Mitsubishi, and others.

    + Proficiency with testing techniques for high-voltage apparatus.

    + Ability to read and understand technical drawings and manufacturer manuals.

    + Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

    + Valid driver’s license and ability to pass drug and background screenings.

    + Willingness to travel and work extended hours, including weekends, when required.

    Preferred:

    + Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology or related field.

    + NICET Level II or III Certification or equivalent field testing credentials.

    + OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification.

    + Experience working in energized substations under utility safety practices.

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    + Perform acceptance and maintenance testing on substation equipment such as circuit breakers, power transformers, CTs, PTs, switches, and bus systems.

    + Conduct electrical tests including insulation resistance, power factor (Doble), TTR, winding resistance, contact resistance, timing, and SFRA.

    + Disassemble, inspect, and repair circuit breakers, disconnect switches, and tap changers as needed.

    + Interpret single-line diagrams, control wiring schematics, and equipment drawings.

    + Accurately document test results, equipment deficiencies, and recommended repairs in detailed reports.

    + Operate test equipment such as Megger, Doble, Vanguard, Omicron, and other industry-standard devices.

    + Ensure all work complies with safety standards, NETA guidelines, and customer specifications.

    + Maintain and calibrate test equipment and tools.

    + Coordinate with engineers, electricians, and other field personnel to ensure accurate work execution.

    + Travel to project sites throughout assigned regions (typically 50–75%) including overnight stays.
