    Summary About the Position: The work involves planning and carrying out the testing program, coordinating the work with other laboratory sections, and interpreting policy in terms of established objectives and forensic requirements. Responsible for determining qualitative level of a given drug in an individual sample, a differentiating a non-negative sample from a negative sample and obtaining quantitative results for validity tests. Responsible for highly sophisticated equipment having exacting, elaborate and complex instrumentation. Performs analysis of urine for the detection of drugs of abuse and specimen validity. Prepares written correspondence and laboratory documentation. Testifies in court (world-wide), as to the operating procedures relating to the immunoassay screening for urine specimens being tested for selected drugs of abuse. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience GS 08: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) performing analysis of urine for the detection of drugs of abuse and specimen validity using automated clinical analyzers and, 2) employing various methods such as immunoassay and photometric methodologies and manual methods such as pH meters and electronic refractometers and, 3) performing instrument maintenance and 4) monitoring controls for error detection while taking corrective action. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years (i.e., 27 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position physics, geophysics, chemistry, hydrology, health physics, and/or laboratory science. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education (directly related to the occupation) and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 9. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
