Job Description Summary:
CPE Intern positions are temporary unpaid educational positions that run from Sept/Oct. to May or from May/June to August annually. Student Chaplains occupy these positions for the length of the training period of Clinical Pastoral Education for which they have been accepted. At the end of the educational unit, CPE Interns are terminated unless transferred into another position.
The Pastoral Care CPE Intern is a student chaplain who provides pastoral care and spiritual support to patients, family members/significant others and staff throughout the assigned healthcare setting, under supervision of a staff chaplain. The Pastoral Care CPE Intern serves as a member of an interfaith pastoral care staff, sharing in activities such as patient care, on-call responsibilities, and providing meaningful worship experiences.

SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE
Optional: At least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE, NACC, CASC) or equivalent faith group leadership experience.
Knowledge of crisis care and counseling skills.
Responsibilities And Duties:
60%: Under supervision, provides direct patient care as requested for emergent and routine requests. Assesses spiritual needs/concerns of patients and their families using clinical pastoral conversation. Communicates and documents patient interactions and consults frequently with chaplain supervisor. Assists in creating an optimal patient experience through development of respectful and compassionate relationships with patients, families, and staff.
20%: Participates in on-call rotation which includes overnight and weekend shifts.
10%: Provides appropriate religious/spiritual rituals, non-pharmacological interventions to patients, families, and inter-professional team. As appropriate, may act as a liaison with the patient’s faith group/leaders including other community or cultural resources.
10%: Provides care in diverse acute/non-acute settings including hospital and outpatient areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree
Additional Job Description:
