    Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN (RADAR), Position Description Number D1684P01 and is part of the ID 266 RANS, National Guard. HIS POSITION IS PERMANENT Responsibilities (1) Deploys, installs, integrates, operates, optimizes, recovers, maintains, and repairs radar systems, sub-systems and components. Ensures that complex air control radar systems are operating at specified technical order (TO) standards and mission requirements. Independently validates operational readiness of complex radar systems for accurate height, range, and azimuth. Validation determines if corrective actions are needed to return the equipment to established tolerances. (2) Integrates and maintains various subsystems such as transmitters, receivers, Digital Target Extractors (DTE), Theatre Missile Defense processors (TMD), Identification Friend or Foe (IFF),Situation Display Console (SDC), Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) and Electronic Counter Counter Measures (ECCM). Radar systems, sub-systems, and components range from older analog microwave technology up to computerized digital technology. (3) Utilizes an extensive variety of Test, Measuring, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) to analyze, evaluate, test, calibrate, modify, diagnose, and perform corrective repair to assure the integrity of assigned equipment. Interprets highly complex electronics diagrams and schematics for determining the cause and leading to the repair of equipment malfunctions. (4) Performs site surveys and uses sophisticated engineering analysis tools (e.g. Falcon Look, and Radar Coverage Predictor) to generate placement and configuration documentation depicting radar coverage and radiation patterns. Notifies appropriate agencies of possible Radio Frequency (RF)radiation, interference or other hazards. Develops, formats, and reviews both internal and external after-action report documentation. Provides direct customer support which includes field testing and recommending new equipment, site surveys, training, resolving problems related to configuration management, systems functionality, hardware and software configuration, and system conflict resolution. (5) Coordinates frequency requests with installation spectrum manager or other agencies to de-conflict frequency assignments when required. (6) Performs equipment modification and changes as directed by Time Compliance Technical Orders(TCTO). Works with Quality Assurance, Job Control, and Supply to insure the appropriate TCTO kit is on hand, schedule and perform the modification, and complete a special inspection at the completion of the modification. Designs, requests approval for, and performs temporary modifications to solve unique one-of-a-kind technical issues with the equipment and configurations. Supports and assists depot and other mobile maintenance teams on extensive equipment modifications. May be tasked to travel with and provide expertise to major command sponsored site support teams. (7) Tracks and accounts for equipment status and location and coordinates equipment status changes through Maintenance Operations Control. Performs system trend analysis. Performs Maintenance Data Collection (MDC) and participates in Maintenance Standardization Evaluation Program (MSEP) processes. (8) Develops, establishes, and maintains work center training programs. Plans and schedules tasks and training activities for drill status guard members. Oversees and conducts on-the-job training(OJT) for personnel. Creates and develops lesson plans. Ensures availability of facilities and training aids. Monitors the training status of personnel and ensures that supplemental and/or remedial training is accomplished. (9) Ensures mobilization readiness of section personnel and equipment. Fabricates cables and connectors to interface with various commercial and military electronic systems and sub-systems. Completes proper documentation and follows procedures for incident reporting. Completes maintenance data collection and performs administrative duties for TO and work center files. Manages bench stock, logistics products, historical records, training records, Test, Measurement, and Diagnostic Equipment (TMDE) records, hazardous waste, and safety procedures. (10) Acts as Communications Security (COMSEC) responsible officer for work center. (11) Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Military Grades: E1 through E5 Experience or training which demonstrates the ability to compare item identification against receiving reports and issue request forms; skill in using hand trucks, dollies, and other equipment to move stock; ability to use hammers, pliers, and other hand tools; and to follow oral and written instructions. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training performing simple mechanical installations and adjustments. Experience which demonstrates the applicant's ability to recognize obvious malfunctions. A good understanding of basic electronic theories and techniques and familiarity with standard electronic components and their use. Tracing circuitry, diagnosing malfunctions and adjusting controls to achieve peak performance. Experience using specific layout and schematic diagrams to construct and package simple devices and subunits of equipment such as power supplies, oscillators, amplifiers, etc. Using advanced methods in a full-range of troubleshooting procedures, techniques, and usage of test-set related equipment. Experience using common hand tools. Experience that demonstrates the ability to follow written instructions. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-9: must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training in installing, testing, and supporting complex electronics equipment, solving technical problems, leading small project teams, and reviewing instructions for the repair, modification and maintenance equipment and related test-set equipment. GS-11: must have 1-year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training in utilizing principles, basic functions, and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. Education There are no additional educational requirements for this position.
