    Job Summary

The University of Michigan Department of Psychiatry's Perinatal Mental Health Services and Policy Program, is recruiting for a **Research** **faculty position at the level of Research Assistant Professor** . The Program is committed to conducting research to improve the health and functional outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women with mental health disorders. The interdisciplinary team of national and international experts is collaborating with colleagues across the country and across our campus to increase awareness and knowledge, improve outcomes, inform policymakers, and train the next generation of leaders in the field.

The Perinatal Mental Health Services and Policy Program is housed in the Department of Psychiatry and aims to understand and envision a comprehensive approach to addressing gaps in care of people with perinatal mental health conditions. Our team is currently conducting several studies sponsored by the National Institute of Health examining the impacts of federal and state behavioral health policies on clinical and economic outcomes among childbearing individuals and infants and the impacts of limitations to access to reproductive health care services on women's mental health and utilization. Other research topics include mental health outcomes of women facing domestic and intimate partner violence, identifying unmet needs related to social services including parental leave and childcare, and assessing the impact of COVID-19 on workplace stressors and burnout among female clinicians and other female university employees.

The applicant for this position should have a solid research background and experience conducting health services research using claims and large-scale data (e.g. private insurance, Medicaid, others) related to women's behavioral health and the impact of employment and paid-leave policies on maternal mental health. The goal of this work is to improve the health and functional outcomes for pregnant and postpartum women with mental health and substance use disorders, with a focus on perinatal mental health, maternal morbidity and mortality, disparities, and policy relevant issues including employment and labor policies. The applicant would participate in regular team meetings, conduct analyses as needed, and lead manuscripts and presentations as a Co-Investigator on Dr. Zivin's grants. The applicant will also be expected to grow their own line of research with the support of Dr. Zivin and her administrative team and involving collaborators from across the university including obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and public health.

We seek a candidate with specific strengths in health services research and learning health systems and expertise and interest in areas such as perinatal mental health, employment, and labor policies to join this highly productive interdisciplinary program. Successful independent research funding is preferred. The position is primarily focused on research but may include other relevant responsibilities such as mentorship, presenting to stakeholders, development of policy relevant dissemination products and other responsibilities as the program grows. The candidate will also be able to work with other relevant research programs in the Department and across U-M. This position will report through the Director of the Perinatal Mental Health Services and Policy Program, Dr. Kara Zivin.

    Required Qualifications*

Applicants must hold a PhD and have completed post-doctoral training. We are seeking someone with a demonstrated history of research success as evidenced by multiple publications in the areas of health services research and who can qualify for an appointment at the University of Michigan at a Research Assistant Professor level. Success in research funding is a plus, as it is a central component of this position.
