Idaho Public Television (PTV) has an exciting and very rare opportunity for The Communications Manager!
About the Agency: Idaho Public Television is a PBS member station and Idaho's only locally owned and operated statewide broadcast network. We are a state agency under the Idaho State Board of Education. Our nonprofit arm, The Friends of Idaho Public Television, Inc., provides private support for our content production and educational efforts and allows us to produce award-winning long form documentaries, quality public affairs journalism, podcasts, educational digital lesson plans, and community events. Position Summary: The Communications Manager (Communications Program Supervisor) oversees and implements communication strategies and operations for Idaho Public Television’s marketing outreach. This role supervises communications staff, manages projects and campaigns, and directs social media and digital outreach to effectively engage diverse audiences. The manager serves as a liaison for internal teams and external partners or community groups to ensure clear, consistent messaging and collaboration. Additionally, this position develops and refines departmental operating procedures to improve efficiency and supports the Communications Director with planning, reporting, and departmental needs as assigned.
Example of Duties:
Key responsibilities:
+ Supervise and support communications staff, including assigning tasks, providing feedback, and fostering professional growth.
+ Manage and implement communications projects and campaigns from planning through completion.
+ Direct social media strategy and oversee daily social media activities to grow and engage audiences.
+ Lead digital outreach initiatives, ensuring timely, accessible, and mission-aligned content delivery.
+ Serve as a liaison between internal departments and external partners or community groups to ensure consistent and effective messaging.
+ Develop, document, and refine departmental operating procedures to enhance efficiency and collaboration.
+ Coordinate and maintain communication calendars and schedules for campaigns, posts, and promotions.
+ Assist the Communications Director with departmental planning, data gathering, reporting, and other tasks as needed.
+ Monitor analytics and key performance indicators to inform strategies and improve outcomes.
+ Ensure all communications align with organizational brand standards, editorial guidelines, and public media values.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ Some knowledge of management practices.
Experience:
+ Developing procedures and/or monitoring a budget;
+ Supervising staff;
+ Providing liaison with customer/provider groups;
+ Interpreting federal or state regulations.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ 2+ years’ experience working in project management software (Such as Asana)
+ Experience in creating and running digital campaigns
+ Familiarity with social media trends and understanding and interpreting social media metrics
+ 2+ years experience in social media editing and scheduling software (Such as Sprout, CapCut, and WooBox)
+ Considerable experience in management of multiple social media brand/business accounts
+ Experience working with CMS platforms, preferably Bento
+ Experience establishing relationships and liaising with state and local organizations on shared campaigns or initiatives
+ Some graphic design experience/knowledge of Canva or similar design programs
+ Good understanding of Public Media and the PBS ecosystem
+ Some management experience, typically gained by 1+ years’ monitoring others’ work
Experience in:
+ Interpreting and applying rules, policies, and procedures related to program operations to ensure compliance with state and federal laws
