Job Overview
Under the general supervision of the Executive Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S), the Director of Fire Prevention and Occupational Safety leads the University’s Fire Prevention Division. The Director of Fire Prevention and Occupational Safety oversees Fire & Life Safety, OSHA compliance programs, Construction Review and Inspection efforts, and ensures safety programs are effectively implemented and maintained across both the Hilltop and Capital campuses. This role serves as the University Fire Marshall. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:
+ Lead inspections of academic, administrative, and research spaces to assess and ensure compliance with OSHA general industry standards and Georgetown University policy.
+ Direct the University’s OSHA safety programs, including but not limited to Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined spaces, and walking/working surfaces
+ Manage Fire & Life Safety programs, including the University's fire watch and emergency response protocols
+ Oversee safety planning and compliance for on-campus events
+ Manage and enforce the University’s construction safety program
+ Direct investigations of occupational and fire-related incidents, accidents, and near-misses; lead root cause analysis and follow-up mitigation strategies
+ Develop and oversee campus-wide training programs on OSHA and fire prevention topics
+ Supervise a team of three safety professionals, providing leadership, guidance, and performance management
+ Serve as the University’s primary liaison to the Georgetown University Police Department, municipal fire departments, and other emergency response units for all fire safety-related events and emergencies
Work Interactions
The Director works in close coordination with EH&S safety managers, the Georgetown University Police Department (GUPD), the Department of Public Safety, fire protection engineers, the campus fire alarm team, and Facilities Management to address and mitigate fire and occupational safety concerns. The role also requires regular interaction with students, staff, faculty, visitors, contractors, and external consultants to ensure ongoing compliance with relevant fire and occupational safety regulations including NFPA, OSHA, and DOEE standards.
Requirements and Qualifications
+ Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Fire Protection, or a related field.
+ At least ten years of experience preferred
+ Comprehensive knowledge and experience in OSHA General Industry Standard, NFPA standards etc
+ Comprehensive technical and legal knowledge in all areas of fire and life safety disciplines, with sufficient academic knowledge in the fire sciences or related fields and understanding of related technical requirements, logistics, materials and operations, rules, regulations, and laws
+ Master’s degree preferred
+ Knowledge of construction safety is a highly desirable
+ Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Pay Range:
The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$80,429.00 - $157,238.93
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate’s individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University’s business needs and external factors.
