Summary: Maintains, repairs, inspects and installs steam plant/refrigeration plant, machinery and associated equipment.
Education: Skills normally obtained through completion of a High School education.
Licensure: Must obtain a City of Providence Boiler Operator or Stationary Engineer License.
Experience: Three to five years’ experience in boiler operator or Stationary Engineering field.
Working Conditions, Physical Environment and/or Safety Requirements: Work requires person to stand or walk most of the day. On average, approximately 75% of the tasks involve lifting weights in the range of 5 to 10 pounds and 5% of the tasks involve lifting weights in the range of 25 to 50 pounds. On average, approximately 50% of the tasks involve reaching overhead and working off of ladders most of this time. On average, approximately 5% of the duties involve working with hazardous substances that necessitate the use of safety apparel. Occasionally some of the duties involve working on or around moving machinery, electrical systems, infectious systems, excessive heat, dust and noise that necessitates the use of proper precautions. Maintains all safety requirements associated with the Medical Center. Occasionally works other hours or shifts in order to complete emergency/critical tasks or tasks that cannot be completed during normal shift hours.
