    Summary This is a public notice flyer to notify interested applicants of anticipated vacancies. Applications will not be accepted through this flyer. Notice of Result letters will not be sent to applicants who respond to this flyer. Responsibilities You will direct the daily activities of the crews during normal operations. You will operate all electronic equipment in the navigation suite, to include, encrypted radio, radar, GPS plotter, depth sounder, and AIS. You will provide direction to the crews to ensure safe operations both during normal evolutions and any emergency situations, which might occur. You will evaluate the fitness of the craft to be operated, to include evaluation of weather conditions, the course and distance to the worksite, etc. Determines and executes the tow configuration and make up between the ship/craft. You will operate powered twin and single screw craft approximately 40 feet in length (approximate 60 gross tons) and all associated equipment onboard. You will provide on the job training (OJT) to prospective crew members and future Motor Vessel Captains and small boat coxswains IAW SIMBBC PQS. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Small Craft Operator without more than normal supervision; Operating and navigating a small craft through traffic; maintaining the craft using a prescribed maintenance plan; performing routine maintenance around the craft, and providing assistance to the Ship's Pilots, Dock master, and Pier master in the moving, docking, and undocking of waterborne craft and ships. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled. Certain incentives (such as Recruitment, Relocation or Student Loan Repayment) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee. A relocation incentive may be authorized. Work requires lifting, carrying, or pulling up to 50 pounds, also climbing vertical ladders, stairs, and prolonged standing, kneeling, bending, pulling, reaching. Incumbent must have the physical ability to handle mooring lines, fenders, anchors, barges and other similar equipment. Incumbent must possess and maintain a minimum of a U.S. Coast Guard 100 Ton Master License or have a documented minimum of 3 years' operating powered twin and single screw craft approximately 40 feet in length (approximate 60 gross tons) or similar craft. This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if the selectee fails to meet the pre-employment requirements, including failure to report to any of the scheduled appointments.
