    We are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Scientist who is interested in contributing to malaria research. The Scientist will be primarily responsible for the management of Seattle Children’s Research Institutes ACL-1 Research Insectary rearing _Anopheles_ mosquitoes, which is critical for the malaria research program at Seattle Children’s. This includes manual rearing of mosquitoes, interfacing with users, managing other employees within the insectary, and detailed logging and record keeping. The Scientist will be able to shape additional responsibilities of the job to their interests within an interdisciplinary research environment.

    The responsibilities for this position include:

    - Perform daily manual maintenance and care of ACL-1 insectary for the ongoing production of mosquitoes for research purposes.

     

    - Perform technical and manual procedures including: cycling of mosquito life stages, cleaning, autoclaving, parasite cycling, and care of equipment and facility.

     

    - Perform administrative tasks for the upkeep of the insectary and fulfilling user requests

     

    - Manage other employees and coordinate with users of the Insectary

     

    - Maintain detailed logs and contribute to troubleshooting

     

    - Collaborate on the development of new tools that will be used in malaria research

     

    - Full-time, 1.0 FTE position. Occasional weekend work is to be expected.

    Required Education/Experience:

    - Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate field of science or technology OR college-level coursework in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or in a related science curriculum AND equivalent lab experience.

     

    - Willingness to work with mice and mosquitoes

     

    - Leadership experience

    Preferred:

    - Mouse handling experience

     

    - At least 1 year of experience in a laboratory/research setting

     

    - Experience in analyzing data using spreadsheets and statistical analysis

     

    - Engineering experience and/or interest

     

    Required Education and Experience

     

    Bachelor’s Degree in biology, microbiology, immunology, molecular biology or biochemistry.

    Prior experience in a laboratory setting.

    Required Credentials

    N/A.

     

    Preferred

     

    Research experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, and tissue culture techniques is highly preferred.

     

    Compensation Range

     

    $25.85 - $38.78 per hour

     

    Salary Information

     

    This compensation range was calculated based on full-time employment (2080 hours worked per calendar year). Offers are determined by multiple factors including equity, skills, experience, and expertise, and may vary within the range provided.
