Job Status: This is a contract position & can be either part time or full time. HRDC also has a "Wellness Hours Policy" which encourages full-time staff to use up to 4 paid hours weekly to work on their wellness.
Wage:$27.50/hour
Shifts:Variable nights and weekends
General Summary of Purpose of this Position:
This role is responsible for ensuring a safe, respectful, and secure environment for all customers, volunteers, partners, and staff by managing facility access, conducting regular safety checks, responding to incidents, and promoting adherence to HRCD policies through the use of trauma-informed practices and de-escalation techniques. The Security Lead also assists with customer belongings, monitors security systems, and coordinates with first responders when necessary.
Primary Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Customer Management (40%)
+ Welcome and screen all shelter guests during check-in
+ Use magnetometers and other tools to ensure an environment free of weapons and prohibited items, such as substances
+ Build positive rapport with customers through compassionate, respectful, and professional customer service, while remaining attentive to behavioral cues
+ Encourage and reinforce alignment with agency policies and procedures consistently and supportively
2. Safety and Security Operations (30%)
+ Conduct regular and randomized walk-throughs and locker checks to support overall safety and situational awareness, including identifying potential hazards or unsafe behaviors
+ Protect people and property by remaining alert to signs of fire, vandalism, theft, or unauthorized entry, and communicate concerns through proper channels
+ Perform regular safety rounds in common areas, including restrooms, stairwells, kitchens, and shared spaces, to help ensure a clean, secure, and trauma-informed setting
+ Monitor surveillance, intrusion, and fire systems
+ Assist in evacuations or other emergency procedures as needed
+ Protect all assigned equipment and resources responsibly
3. Support and Coordination (30%)
+ Assist in managing and organizing guest belongings within storage areas, ensuring secure and equitable access to lockers following Guest Services guidelines
+ Support a welcoming and calm environment at reception and throughout the facility, providing presence and intervention when needed to maintain physical and emotional safety
Required Qualifications: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities that are required for success in this position.
Experience:
+ 2 years of work experience in crisis de-escalation or security/safety-related roles, or similar
+ 1-2 years of experience providing a high level of support to a diverse customer base, maintaining professionalism and responsiveness across various channels
+ Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally
+ 1 year of experience using a wide range of computer systems, office equipment, and standard office procedures
Skills/Knowledge:
+ Commitment to utilizing a trauma-informed approach to safety and security measures
+ Demonstrates high ethical standards and professionalism in all interactions
+ Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize tasks and work independently while contributing to a collaborative team
+ Excellent listener and communicator, both written and verbal; ability to complete documentation with clarity and accuracy
+ Brings compassion and cultural humility to interactions with people from a range of different backgrounds
+ Ability to read, interpret, and implement documents such as governmental regulations, rules, and procedure manuals
+ Basic math skills
+ Willingness to participate in all required safety and security training
+ Values teamwork and contributes to the overall mission and vision of HRDC
+ Flexible and reliable in scheduling, including availability for weekends and late nights
+ Dependable, self-motivated work ethic and the ability to stay organized and responsive in a dynamic team environment
Education:
+ Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience preferred
Confidentiality:This position requires regular handling of sensitive and confidential client and agency information. Unauthorized disclosure could harm client interests and the organization, and may also violate state and federal privacy laws. This position will have full access to reports, records, and personnel files, and must exercise the highest level of discretion, judgment, and confidentiality at all times.

Computer Skills:
+ Ability to learn a variety of software programs
+ Google Suite - Email, Chat, Meet, Forms, Sheet etc, used daily
+ Additional Software: CaseWorthy, Paychex, Blackbaud Financial Edge, Cytracom

Driver's Licenses Required for Performing this Position:
+ Montana Class D Driver's License

+ While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk and hear
+ The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
+ The incumbent must be able to perform multiple tasks simultaneously and work under time pressure
+ Must be able to sit for extended periods of time
Section III – Supervision
Supervision Received:
+ This position operates under general supervision.
+ The incumbent is authorized to make decisions as to the timing and sequence of work and the work is performed according to established policies and procedures and/or within applicable laws, rules and regulations governing the tasks being performed.
+ Works under the direct supervision of the Safety & Support Manager and consults Program Directors/Managers on questions, problems and procedures as they arise.

+ May occasionally supervise volunteers
Section IV – Decisions
Impact of Decisions and Errors Made by Position:
+ Decisions, final recommendations and/or errors affect all employees of HRDC and could have severe legal and/or monetary consequences.
Judgment required to make decisions:
+ Requires judgment to solve day-to-day problems, but usually within established procedures, guidelines, and precedents.
+ Job duties typically involve frequently changing conditions and problems
Exception Authority:
+ This position cannot authorize exceptions to program policy or procedure

+ This position may handle cash and checks received
Section VI – Communication
+ Interacts with the public or customers daily
+ Interacts with program managers, executives, HRDC Board, and/or committees on a daily basis.
+ Interacts with representatives of other service providers on a weekly or more frequent basis
+ May interact with governmental compliance or auditors to provide information or exchange facts
Section VII – Working Conditions:
The incumbent is exposed to the following unusual, potentially hazardous or unpleasant working conditions:
+ Works in a temperature-controlled office environment
+ Occasional exposure to angry, violent clients and community members
+ Weekly or more frequent contact with clients who are in a highly emotional state of mind
+ May have to drive to other work locations and/or training sites.
