    Summary

    The Distribution Integration Operations Support engineer provides leadership and support for existing distribution grid operations including triage of real-time issues, development of operating procedures and resolution of operational changes. The engineer will facilitate coordination with various engineering organizations and development/upgrade of engineering Standards related to operational improvements & new technologies.  The engineer will support strategic distribution enablement efforts including R&D lab/pilot activities that impact Distribution Operations.

     

    Apply in-depth technical distribution, technology and engineering knowledge and expertise to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the distribution network while providing cost-effective and timely solutions for customers (internal and external).  Ability to interface with internal stakeholders including customer and technology teams, engineering and design teams, grid operations and occasionally external stakeholders to collaborate on technology and solutions to modernize the distribution grid.

     

    Responsible for project budgets and schedules. Occasional travel to supplier's facilities, industry organizational functions and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizational groups within SRP.

    What You'll Do

    + Support distribution operations (DOC) with "next day" and "post real-time" support, which may include data analytics on distribution system performance, and investigation & resolution of operational issues.

    + Support distribution operations with triage of real-time issues as needed.

    + Provide "day ahead" and operations planning support for DOC, which includes modeling & analysis of the distribution system, identification of potential system issues, and development of possible mitigation plans.

    + Work closely with Operations Specialists and Distribution Planning Engineers to develop short-term load balancing recommendations to DOC for areas for areas of the distribution grid with complex technology mixes.

    + Provide technical leadership to distribution related R&D efforts, which will include technology selection, evaluation, testing & field demonstrations, and developing recommendations for implementation.

    + Serves on industry committees and task forces as a representative of SRP.

    What It Takes To Succeed

    + Demonstrated network of internal and external contacts including customers, outside agencies, and suppliers of significant equipment and services. Occasional travel to suppliers' facilities, industry functions, and SRP facilities. Ability to work effectively with various organizations within SRP. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job. Must have a valid driver's license.

    + Experience in transmission or distribution planning or transmission or distribution operations, which may include generator interconnection studies, short circuit studies, knowledge of relay and protection concepts, or data science concepts.

    + Knowledge of power systems analysis and engineering applications (Synergi, Aspen, PI Data Historian, or other similar applications)

    + Familiarity with Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) is a plus

    + Experience with Distribution Operations is a plus

    + Experience with Inverter Based Resources is a plus

    + Excellent written and oral communications skills

    + Experience with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access, Visio, Outlook and Teams

    + Must be able to work as a member of a team and handle multiple tasks and priorities, and able to be flexible as priorities change to support operational needs

    + Able to work in a fast-paced environment and under compressed deadlines to support operational needs

    Experience

    Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

     

    Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

    Education

    A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited institution is required and a master’s degree in the area of specialty is preferred.

     

    Hybrid Workplace

     

    SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
