Job Purpose:
The purpose of the position is to ensure all products are free from defects and in compliance with engineering and manufacturing specifications and standards. In the instance of any non-conformance, this position works to resolve them fully and provide guidance on process enhancements and improvements.

Education / Training:
• Engineering degree (Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical) or equivalent training and experience.
Preferred:
• MS in engineering or MBA.
Job Title:
Senior Supplier Quality Engineer

Key Job Elements:
• Conduct production part approval processes to eliminate quality non-conformances from impacting operations.
o Define PPAP requirements and review submissions for conformance to stated requirements
o Participate in Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) for NPI with suppliers
• Investigate, define, and resolve quality non-conformances. Vet supplier interim and permanent corrective actions for effectiveness.
o Resolve systemic and chronic supplier quality issues through focused attention
• Conduct supplier audits and coach for continuous improvement
o Identify process gaps and make recommendations for correction
• Work closely with supply chain, engineering, operations to develop supplier capability effectively and collaboratively
o Identify high risk suppliers and work to mitigate associated risks
o Apply advanced knowledge of manufacturing and engineering processes to guide improvement and solutions
o Report out regularly, updating leadership with critical information
• Proactively work with supplier on lean activities that provide better quality and cost savings
• Assist purchasing in cost reduction and supplier cost recovery projects with existing suppliers
Qualifications and Experience:
• Required
o Extensive experience with welding processes, symbols, visual acceptance criteria, industry codes, and equipment (preferred CWI)
o Experience with fabrication processes (laser, forming, welding, painting)
o Experience with manufacturing fixture design and usage
o Engineering degree (Mechanical, Electrical,)
o Function in accordance with the principles outlined in the Code of Conduct and Values in Action
o Advanced knowledge of Supplier Development methodology
o Advanced knowledge of manufacturing processes and controls
o Advanced knowledge of PPAP, control plans, capability analysis, PFMEA, DFMEA, etc.
o Advanced communication skills; collaborative; change agent qualities
o Creative thinking capability for problem solving, 8D, 5Y methodology
o Basic usage of ERP systems
o Ability to travel as needed (40%)
• Preferred
o Locomotive experience
o Knowledge of six sigma, lean manufacturing and corrective action planning; Six sigma black belt
o Knowledge of metrology, statistical measurement capability
o Bilingual with proficient oral and written skills
Essential and Physical Activities Functions
• Strength – Position requires lifting of 50lbs. Requires stamina and strength to work in tight and confined spaces while inspecting components;
• Motion – Position requires standing and/or walking the majority of the day. Frequent walking, squatting, kneeling and climbing of steps and stairs;
• Vision/Hearing Requirements – Exposed to high levels of noise and vibration from using tools. Position is exposed to cutting torches and welding operations. The use of proper PPE is required. The position requires the ability to read QWI and schematics and understand instructions;
• Work Environment – Position can be located inside or outside, dependent on situation. When inside, the employees are subject to temperature extremes in non-temperature controlled environments. When outside employees are subject to all weather elements. Employees will work with oils and other lubricants;
• Emotional Demands – Expected to work and cooperate as part of team in order to meet production requirements;
• Safety – Position is safety sensitive, as it requires working in and around live tracks and operation and repair of heavy equipment. Position requires strict adherence to safety policies (i.e blue flag) and use of all PPE.
