    Care Team Medical Assistant (I-II-III, IV)

     

    Site Location: Total Health Community Clinic | West Salem Clinic

     

    Position Status : Full-Time, 40 hrs/wk (option for 4/10's work schedule)

     

    Hours : Monday - Friday, with rotating Saturdays

    As an active member of the care team, the Medical Assistant is primarily responsible for assisting patients during routine office visits and supporting ongoing health management. You will contribute to the overall patient experience by performing clinical tasks with a focus on safety, accuracy, and empathy. In this role, you’ll also help monitor and maintain patient health records, ensuring documentation is complete and consistent with care plans.

    SPECIFIC DUTIES:

    + Actively participates as an integral and valued member of the Care Team by engaging in the teamwork model by seeking opportunities to assist and support the care team workflow throughout the day. Consistently communicates effectively in a professional manner with clients, staff, and providers. Communicates with empathy/compassion while using appropriate language when speaking with patients/clients.

    + Reviews the electronic medical record (EMR) prior to the scheduled visits (scrubbing) for completion of health maintenance recommendations, previous Pap smear, mammography, other radiologic studies, lab work, immunizations, hospital reports, and reports from referrals. Updates scrubbing flow sheet, ensuring that necessary information is ready and available for the visit.

    + Huddles throughout the day with provider and communicates bi-directionally with the Reception and Care Team regarding the patient’s arrival and appointment times. Welcomes and escorts patient to the examination room. Initially assesses and prepares the patient for the provider. Reviews, confirms, and updates the patient’s information in the EMR including demographic data, verification of the patient’s preferred pharmacy, allergies, smoking status, and measurements of vital signs, weight, and height.

    + Performs in-house point of care tests, vision and hearing tests, EKG, ear irrigation, dressing applications and other activities as directed by the provider. Demonstrates competence in performing SQ and IM injections of authorized medication and vaccinations as ordered by the provider and follows routine standing orders. Performs real time documentation after medications are administered and can accurately code for billable versus VFC immunizations.

    + Assists in discharging the patient at the completion of the office visit, including going over the printed Office Visit Summary. Aids in the completion of medication, laboratory, and radiology orders. Provides patient education information ordered by the provider. Answers any logistical questions the patient may have. Assists in follow-up appointment scheduling.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    + Education and training in a Medical Assistant/Nursing/Medical program that includes coursework in pharmacology/administration of medications preferred.

    + Medical Assistant Certification as an RMA, CMA, NCMOA, NCMA, preferred.

    + CPR certified in infant, child, and adult levels.

    + One year of experience in a medical clinic setting preferred.

    + Bilingual preferred but not required
