    Join Our Team at UPMC Children's North Surgery Center – Full-Time OR RN Opportunity!

     

    Are you a skilled Operating Room RN looking to advance your career in a supportive, high-performing environment? UPMC Children's North Surgery Center is hiring a full-time Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. This role offers a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced surgical techs and CRNAs, providing safe and efficient care as a circulator in the OR. You'll also have the chance to expand your skills by learning to scrub and climb the MNC!

    • What We're Looking For:

    + Must have: Minimum of 2 years of OR experience

    + Nice to have: RN certification (preferred but not required)

    Responsibilities:

    Clinical Leadership & Expertise

    + Serves as a role model in professional nursing practice through clinical expertise, teaching, and evidence-based care.

    + Leads and participates in unit and hospital-wide teams to drive quality improvement and innovation in patient care.

    + Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment and critical thinking within the framework of Relationship-Based Care.

    Patient-Centered Care

    + Applies the nursing process to develop holistic, individualized care plans in partnership with patients.

    + Communicates effectively with the healthcare team, translating patient conditions and advocating for care improvements.

    + Ensures comprehensive documentation that enhances caregiver communication and continuity of care.

    Professional Development & Teaching

    + Passionately mentors students, graduate nurses, and new hires; identifies learning opportunities to improve practice.

    + Promotes continuous learning by sharing research, leading journal clubs, and presenting educational content.

    Quality & Evidence-Based Practice

    + Identifies and leads initiatives to improve clinical quality and workplace culture.

    + Integrates evidence-based practice into daily care and supports innovations that enhance patient safety and satisfaction.

    Healthy Work Environment

    + Builds strong, respectful relationships with colleagues; addresses workplace challenges such as horizontal violence.

    + Maintains work-life balance through effective prioritization and delegation.

    Experience & Education:

    + Minimum 2 years of RN experience required

    + BSN preferred; if held, a Master's in a related field may substitute for certification

    + Certification required unless candidate holds a master’s in nursing or DNP

    + Annual completion of 1 professional contribution aligned with department/hospital/system goals, approved by Unit Director per UPMC’s My Nursing Career Ladder

    Performance & Advancement:

    + Must achieve and maintain a Solid/Strong/Good or higher on annual Professional Staff Nurse Performance Evaluation to be promoted and retain this level

    Clinical Skills & Responsibilities:

    + Demonstrate age-specific care knowledge and skills per unit guidelines

    + Understand principles of growth and development across the lifespan

    + Assess and interpret patient data to meet individualized care needs

    + Exhibit exemplary clinical judgment, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities

    + Ability to lead others in applying the nursing process

    + Maintain positive, caring relationships with all levels of staff and patients/families

    + Work effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment with changing priorities and specialized equipment

    + Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting, and patient positioning

    Licensure, Certifications & Clearances:

    + Current RN license in the facility’s state or a multistate license under the Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC)

    + If relocating to the facility’s state, must obtain state licensure within 60 days

    + CPR certification (AHA standards: didactic + skills demo) within 30 days of hire

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + Act 31, 33, 34, and 73 clearances with renewal as required
