Paralegal

Job Description:

The Douglas County District Court Trustee is accepting applications for a full-time child support paralegal. This is a highly responsible position in child support enforcement. This position carries an assigned domestic caseload. Duties include:

+ Monitoring child support and maintenance payment records

+ Taking enforcement action to collect support

+ Answering phone calls regarding support

+ Providing guidance to support obligors and obligees

+ Preparing legal pleadings

+ Preparing judgment interest calculations

+ Working closely with attorneys to identify and review appropriate enforcement action

+ Proofreading documents

+ Preparing letters to support obligors and obligees and their attorneys of record

+ General office duties

+ Providing backup coverage for front counter

Qualifications: High school education; excellent customer service skills; efficiency in computer skills (Excel, Word, and Outlook); proofreading skills; attention to detail; excellent communication and organizational skills; excellent interpersonal and problem-solving skills; and ability to multi-task, work independently and with team members, and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred Qualifications: prior legal experience in area of child support enforcement, domestic relations law, or debt collection; paralegal degree or associate’s degree.

Salary/Pay Rate: Starting pay is $20.99 (Grade 23, Step A) hourly with possible step increases at 6 months ($21.52) and 1 year ($23.16). Great benefits that include health insurance, KPERS and paid time off.

On site position at the Judicial and Law Enforcement Center in Lawrence, Kansas.
