    Summary

    We are recruiting for a Mirco Health Services Tech 4 to provide sample tracking, preparation and cataloging of samples as well as performing quantitative and qualitative microbiological test procedures.

     

    This position is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am – 5:00pm. Rotational weekend work.

     

    This position has a target wage of $27.60 - $41.40 per hour, based on shift, experience and qualifications with annual bonus available (variable depending on performance). Overtime may be available.

    Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

    1. Performs salmonella and campylobacter tests on rinses sent in from plants and live side - pathogen testing.

    2. Assist in preforming water quality testing on samples from the field.

    3. Accurately processes daily samples brought to the lab for bacterial testing using aseptic techniques

    4. Accurately logging and reporting of results.

    5. In the preparation of culture media, measurement and autoclaving procedures must be performed accurately; handles various chemicals and reagents - some of which require protective gear and safety handling techniques.

    6. Accurately diluting samples for Total Plate Testing.

    7. Responsible for running Clear Labs machine for salmonella testing.

    8. Be able to read, understand, interpret and follow the guidelines as described in the Salmonella Monitoring Section of the USDA National Improvement Plan (NPIP).

    9. Maintains lab sanitation.

     

    Minimum Education and Education Required

    Required:

     

    + Strong oral and written communication skills are a must

    + Experience with Microsoft word programs

    + Highly motivated and dependable with a positive attitude

    + Able to work well with other

    + Able to perform assays and record results with exceptional accuracy and precision

    + Be well organized

    + Good communication, computer, science and math skills

    Preferred:

    Experience in poultry bacteriology preferred

     

    Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

     

    Position is active and requires standing/walking on feet for long periods of time. Must be able to move throughout the facility to collect/move samples, equipment, and supplies. Must be able to observe color changes in reactions and on product samples. Must be able to detect odors using sense of smell. Must be able to bend, twist, reach, grasp, and climb stairs. Reaching, standing, walking, sitting, and grasping varies in repetition, distance, degrees, angle, weight, and height depending upon the task required. Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds and carry 40 pounds for a short distance.

     

    Most of the workday will be inside the laboratory where environmental conditions are generally 60-80℉ and humidity is ambient to 85%. The position also may require entry to the processing plant. When in a plant environment exposure primarily consists of wet and moist floors which include metal and plastic grating surfaces. May be exposed to temperatures ranging from 0-120℉, humidity from 0 – 100%, and noises ranging from 50 to 110 db. When in plant environment all required PPE must be worn as designated by the Company.

     

    Position requires exposure and handling of chemicals and reagents used for testing and media preparation as well as handling hot and cold liquids in a variety of containers. May be exposed to all chemicals used in poultry, food, and processing facilities. Must be able to wear and use all protective and safety equipment required for the job as directed by the Company. May be exposed to pathogenic organisms and hazardous chemicals. (SDS sheets available).
