    Status: Full-Time

     

    Salary: Starting at $75,000 annually

     

    Hours: Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm (occasional evenings/weekends)

    Position Summary

    The Education Director, Youth Services will serve as the lead architect of QCH’s youth education programming, ensuring alignment with Department of Education (DOE) and Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) standards. This role combines curriculum design, staff development, family engagement, and program compliance to create high-quality educational experiences that empower young people and their families.

     

    Core Competencies & Responsibilities

    Curriculum & Program Design

    + Curate program content and maintain a library of lesson plans and activities.

    + Research and implement age-appropriate curricula and unit plans.

    + Ensure lesson plans align with DOE and DYCD standards.

    + Lead Freedom Schools initiatives and manage subcontractor program integration.

    Staff Development & Support

    + Supervise and coach Education Specialists to strengthen teaching and learning outcomes.

    + Plan and coordinate professional development sessions for staff in partnership with the Youth Management Team.

    + Collaborate with Program Directors and school staff to align with academic expectations.

    + Foster a youth-focused, strengths-based learning environment.

    Family Literacy & Engagement

    + Enhance QCH’s family literacy initiatives across K–8 programs.

    + Coordinate family literacy programming across Beacons and After-School sites.

    + Build partnerships with literacy organizations (e.g., Children’s Defense Fund, Queens College).

    + Support staff in hosting workshops and engaging families in literacy activities.

    Data, Compliance & Standards

    + Analyze program data to identify trends and recommend improvements.

    + Ensure compliance with DYCD, DOH, and QCH standards and regulations.

    Participant Engagement

    + Inspire youth through project-based learning, educational trips, and achievement celebrations.

    + Encourage motivation and positive attitudes toward learning.

    Other Responsibilities

    + Contribute to strategic planning and manage ED specifications.

    + Lead or support special projects as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education required.

    + NY/NJ/CT teaching credentials or 10+ years of K–8 teaching experience.

    + Minimum 3 years of literacy teaching experience with youth and adults.

    + Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly preferred.

    + Familiarity with NYS Common Core Standards and literacy curriculum development.

    + Strong coaching, leadership, and problem-solving skills.

    + Background in literacy and youth development focus areas (e.g., Leadership, Careers, Sports, Debate, Civic Engagement).

    + Must pass NYS DOH fingerprinting, background check, and TB test.
