Agile Safe Autonomous Systems (ASAS) Labs at NYU Tandon School of Engineering is seeking to hire a Part Time Research Scholar to work with Professor Katsuo Kurabayashi.

Leveraging data-driven methodologies and robust control theories, our mission is to ensure the safe integration of autonomous systems into dynamic and uncertain real-world environments. Our collaborative efforts span academia, industry, and government, focusing on applications including autonomous vehicles, collaborative robotics, and cyber-physical systems. Housed within NYU’s Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, our work contributes to transformative advancements in robotics and automation, intelligent transportation, safety assurance, and secure AI-enabled systems that aim to build a more resilient, efficient, and trustworthy autonomous future.

Expectations

Candidates will be responsible for conducting research focused on advancing agile autonomous mobility through the integration of machine learning techniques with physics-based models. The role involves developing algorithms and tools for perception, control, and decision-making in dynamic environments. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in computer science, robotics, or engineering, supported by a solid publication record. Prior experience in autonomous systems, mobility platforms, or related areas is essential.

Expected start date and period of employment

Expected start date is September 1. This position is expected to be for 2 months. Part time appointments would require a work schedule of approximately 27 hours per week.

Salary range

In compliance with NYC’s Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary for this position is $30/hour depending on the candidate’s experience and qualification.

Candidates should have at least a Masters in computer science, mechanical engineering, data science, statics, and applied mathematics or a related field and at least 2 years of experience in computer science. Candidates will be required to present eligibility to work in the United States.
