    Job Description:

    The Athletics Mental Health & Performance Clinician works with both the Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) team and the Sport Psychology Department to provide psychological support and mental skills and performance coaching to varsity student-athletes primarily via individual sessions and also group or team-based sessions as appropriate. The Athletics Mental Health & Performance Clinician will work collaboratively with varsity student-athletes, the Sport Psychologist, the Wellness & Performance team in Athletics, and the CAPS team to foster a supportive, caring, and high-performance environment for student-athletes at Brown. This role will focus on enhancing mental well-being, resilience, and mental performance, with a commitment to holistic care and support for all varsity student-athletes at Brown.

     

    This is a part-time, 20-hour per week role with a 10-month (academic year) assignment.

    Job Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in Counseling (LMHC) or Social Work (LICSW) required, with a focus or specialization in sport psychology or experience working with collegiate student-athletes.

    + Experience in individual counseling or coaching for student-athletes at the collegiate level, with a deep understanding of the unique pressures faced by athletes and collegiate student-athletes.

    + Strong knowledge of mental performance strategies (e.g., mindfulness, goal setting, visualization, cognitive-behavioral techniques, relaxation techniques, etc.).

    + Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, including athletic staff, coaches, medical, and counseling professionals.

    + Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with a broad population of student-athletes and staff.

    + Commitment to supporting all student-athletes who seek care and demonstrated experience working with people from a wide variety of backgrounds and life experiences.

    + Ability to maintain confidentiality, manage sensitive information and situations, and respond to mental health crises as needed.

    + Current license (or license eligible) to practice in Rhode Island.

    Preferred qualifications:

    + Prior experience working within NCAA collegiate athletics or similar high-performance environments.

    + Training or certification in sport psychology, mental performance (e.g. CMPC), or similar certifications.

    + Knowledge of current trends, practices, and research in sport psychology, mental performance, mental health, and sports performance.
