    This position is 40 hours per week, with variable scheduling based on the trainee’s roating schedule. Availability is required Monday through Sunday between 5:30 AM and 7:00 PM. Regular and punctual attendance is required.

    The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Utah School of Medicine is seeking an experienced Certified Nursing Assistant – Clinical Accessibility Assistant ( CAA ) to join our Pediatric Education Enterprise team. The CAA provides direct support to a resident physician in their pediatric trainee program, including personal care assistance for daily living needs such as feedings and bathroom-related tasks, scribing patient encounters, assisting with mobility, and supporting clinical tasks such as documentation, communication, and equipment setup. The role also includes attending rounds and educational activities, and helping meet residency certification requirements. This unique and meaningful position ensures the resident physician can fully participate in all aspects of their medical residency training and patient care responsibilities.

     

    As a CAA , you will be an integral part of an inclusive and high-performing care team, contributing directly to patient care, health equity, and medical education. Your presence will help bridge accessibility with excellence in training and clinical delivery.

    Responsibilities

    Essential Functions

    Clinical Support

     

    + Scribe during patient encounters and assist in transcribing histories, exam findings, and medical decision-making into the electronic medical record ( EMR ).

    + Reinforces or assists in educating and teaching patients/significant other(s) as delegated by the provider.

    + Collects, reports and documents data related to direct patient care activities.

    + Provides communication to hospital staff, physicians, patients, families, and visitors as directed by the provider.

    + May assist with admits, discharges, and transfer functions per unit standard as directed by the provider.

    + Provide mobility support for physical tasks.

    + Assist with clinical tools and equipment during patient exams or bedside procedures.

    + Attend rounds, educational conferences, and team meetings alongside the resident.

    + Assist with completion of certification for PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), BLS (Basic Life Support), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and other pediatric residency training requirements.

     

    Personal Care Assistance

     

    + Support daily living needs such as feeding and bathroom-related assistance (1–2x/day) with professionalism and respect.

    + Ensure comfort, hygiene, and accessibility in a busy hospital environment.

    _Employee must be able to meet the following requirements with or without an accommodation._

     

    + This position involves intermediate working conditions in a healthcare setting that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving patients or objects, such as medical equipment, while providing patient care. Workers in this position may be exposed to infectious diseases and may be required to function around prisoners or behavioral health patients.

     

    The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient’s status and provide care as described in the department’s policies and procedures manual.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Required

    Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system. The eCredential is to be obtained within 30 days of hire.

     

    Current certification as a Nursing Assistant with the State of Utah,or completion of first round of clinical and current enrollment in approved nursing education program or successful completion of RN program.

     

    For those enrolled in a nursing program, incumbents have three months from completion of RN program to obtain an RN license. If an RN license is not obtained by the end of those three months, the incumbent must immediately obtain a current CNA .

     

    Individuals in this job code with an RN license must also have a CNA certification if they remain in it longer than three months.

     

    This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements.
