    The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric & Earth Science has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Senior Research Associate I position to work as a Senior Research Associate I at NOAA’s Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (NOAA/AOML). The successful applicant will be responsible for summarizing research and developing informational products, and to communicate science funded and conducted by NOAA/AOML and CIMAS. The position is for one year with the possibility of continued employment with availability of funding and satisfactory execution of duties.

     

    The incumbent will be under the general supervision of the Director of CIMAS and will work directly with lead scientists and communications personnel at NOAA/AOML and CIMAS.

     

    SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS:● Interact with scientists and communication staff to summarize research and projects conducted at AOML.● Produce informational products, develop digital content for the web, social media and print, and publish research highlights for dissemination on public channels including the AOML website.● Communicate and conduct outreach with the public, managers, and stakeholders on the research efforts at AOML.● Create engaging video content that highlights the research being performed at AOML● Report of his/her annual progress to the Director of CIMAS and the Communications Lead at AOML.

     

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:● Applicants must possess a master’s degree in marine science, communication or a related field from an accredited university, and some professional experience in science communications.● Strong written and verbal communication skills are required, and experience working as part of a communications team to develop informational products.● Ability to interpret scientific research and papers for plain-language summaries and other widely distributed science content, as well as experience writing research highlights pertaining to oceanography, hurricanes, ocean chemistry, and marine ecosystems.● Familiarity with the NOAA style guide, basic website design principles, Adobe Suite, WordPress website development platform, and developing printed and digital communications materials (ability to create additional resources such as data visualizations is preferred).● Experience with traditional video editing and Insta360 software● Must be highly motivated, independent, organized, and have the ability to adapt and actively solve unforeseen problems to a dynamic lab environment
