DAYS/HOURS:
Monday - Friday
Mornings and/or Evenings
HIRING RATE:
$20.15 - $23.50 depending upon experience
Under general supervision, coaches the adult swim team.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Designs and implements swim workouts and training techniques for adults.
Attends swim meets and the Colorado Masters Swim Association meetings.
Completes monthly reports.
Maintains a variety of records related to the swim team.
Conducts swim technique clinic.
Provides quality customer service; enforces policies, rules, and regulations; governs the conduct of patrons using the pool.
Ensures all possible safety measures are observed.
Responds to emergency situations as required and maintains accurate accident and incident reports.
Complies with city and departmental rules and regulations, policies, and procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
Must be at least 21 years of age. Requires high school diploma or GED; two years of previous seasonal swim coaching experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certification Requirements:
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)/Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) certificate and First Aid certification or the ability to obtain within 30 days of hire.
May need the ability to travel to various locations in a timely manner as the job requires.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the policies, procedures and goals of the city of Thornton and the department.
Knowledge of lifeguard processes and procedures.
Skill in teaching swim lessons for adults.
Skill in performing lifesaving, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid activities.
Ability to deal tactfully and effectively with the public.
Ability to work well with the public.
Ability to read, interpret and apply operating policies and procedures.
Ability to react quickly and accurately in emergency situations.
Ability to maintain composure during mentally, physically and emotionally stressful situations.
Ability to listen well and communicate effectively orally and in writing with various audiences.
Ability to work evenings, weekends and holidays, or flexible schedules.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, climb, crawl, repeatedly twist the upper body, talk, hear, see and demonstrate manual dexterity, and must be able to lift 50 pounds on a daily basis. The employee must demonstrate the ability to remain calm during routine and stressful conditions.

Examinations may include but are not limited to application screening beyond minimum qualifications; written, oral, practical exercise or any combination thereof or other job related assessment deemed appropriate by Human Resources.
