    The Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University (the Center) seeks a **_Project Manager, Los Angeles_** to support key efforts under the City of Los Angeles Deputy Mayor, Office of Strategic Partnerships.

     

    The Project Manager will lead the development and execution of project planning and ensure successful delivery of programs that are shaped through the team’s civic design process.

     

    They will support the City of Los Angeles’ efforts to accelerate transformative city policy, infrastructure, and innovation efforts that generate lasting benefits for all Angelenos, while fostering civic pride, inclusive public-private collaboration, and long-term urban resilience to advance Los Angeles’ unprecedented recovery from the January 2025 wildfires and hosting of three consecutive global sporting events—2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Super Bowl, and 2028 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

     

    The ideal candidate will have strong project management experience as well as interest in learning and using innovation methods and mindsets to deliver transformative impact for communities. The Project Manager is an employee of Johns Hopkins University and is based in Los Angeles City Hall to support the team’s work with government colleagues, with community, and across other stakeholders. They report to the Civic Strategists.

     

    The first of its kind in the world, the Center is advancing the field of public sector innovation by marrying cutting-edge practice with world-class research to transform the culture of government, deliver exceptional results for residents, and inspire trust in public service.

    Specific Duties & Responsibilities

    + Lead the planning and creation of the scope, goals, deliverables, required resources, work plan, and timing for team activities and initiatives.

    + Supervise development of targets and regular measurement of progress.

    + Ensure timely communications within the team, and with stakeholders within and outside of government.

    + Lead regular team progress and coordination meetings.

    + Communicate progress and elevate issues for guidance to Civic Strategists.

    + Adjust schedules and targets as situations may require ensuring project goals are met.

    + Implement best practices and process improvements to manage scope, project activities, project schedule, budget, issues, and risks.

    + Develop and coordinate processes for effectively managing team resources.

    + Support research and literature reviews as the work requires.

    + Ability to deliver high quality work in a dynamic, political environment.

    + Support the development and management of partnerships and collaborations with stakeholders inside and outside of city government.

    + Regularly assess project execution and make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for how to progress.

    + Assign tasks to internal teams and assist project teams with removing project roadblocks by using informal authority, delegation, and agile values.

    + Support the team and other city government colleagues in agile ways of working, including a high proficiency in using tools like Slack, Figma, Miro, Google Workspace, and work management software like Asana.

    + Manage an active calendar of key stakeholder engagements to ensure alignment and that the team is prepared to show up well in every encounter with internal and external stakeholders.

    Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    + Five plus years relevant experience.

    + Strong ability to communicate complex concepts to different audiences and stakeholders.

    + Attentiveness to details, deadline-oriented, acute vision, and the ability to give and receive constructive criticism.

    + Excellent written and oral communication.

    + Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

    + The ability to work in team settings effectively.

    + Experience working for or in collaboration with local government.

    + Strong sense of service to residents of Los Angeles.

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's Degree.

    + Five years related experience.

    + Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education beyond HS Diploma/Graduation Equivalent, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Able to attend multiple community meetings in different neighborhoods in a single day.

    + Able to be in the office in Los Angeles five days/week.

    + Experience or familiarity with government innovation efforts, including a strong conceptual and practical understanding of innovation tools and the role of human centered design, data, and policy in the public sector.

    + Project Management certification.

    Starting Salary Range: $64,600 - $113,300 Annually (Commensurate w/exp.)

     

    Employee group: Full Time

     

    Schedule: Monday - Friday 9am-5:30pm

     

    FLSA Status: Exempt

    The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
