    The Controlled Substance Analyst plays a critical role in ensuring compliance with federal, state, and organizational regulations related to controlled substances. This position is responsible for utilizing the health system’s controlled substance diversion monitoring platform and other reporting tools to proactively identify trends, monitor compliance, and support investigations into potential diversion or policy non-adherence. The Analyst collaborates closely with the Controlled Substance Officer, pharmacy leadership, and interdisciplinary partners to strengthen the organization’s-controlled substance stewardship and diversion prevention program.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Monitor controlled substance activity across the health system using the diversion monitoring platform and supplemental data resources. Generate, review, and analyze reports to ensure compliance with health system-controlled substance policies, DEA regulations, and state requirements. Identify patterns, trends, or anomalies in medication use that may signal non-compliance or diversion risk.

    + Support and document investigations related to controlled substance discrepancies, diversion events, or compliance concerns.

    + Partner with the Controlled Substance Officer and pharmacy leadership to develop action plans, implement corrective measures, and track outcomes. Maintain accurate and confidential records of findings, reports, and investigations.

    + Respond to issues of non-compliance that involve the storage and use of controlled substances. Assist in the preparation of compliance reports, audits, and regulatory inspections.

    + Assist with development of policies, procedures, reports, presentations, and training materials to ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations.

    + Educate and support staff on controlled substance procedures and reporting expectations as directed. Stay current on regulatory and industry best practices in controlled substance management.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education and Certifications

    + High school diploma and GED

    + Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician by the Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy.

    + Current certification by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Healthcareer Association.

    + Completion of a Massachusetts Board of Pharmacy approved training program or a minimum of 500 hours worked as a pharmacy technician trainee.

    Experience

    + Minimum 2 years Pharmacy Technician experience, including at least 1 year in hospital setting preferred

    + Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.

    + Proficiency in data analysis, report generation, and use of electronic health record (EHR) and medication dispensing systems.

    + Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

    + Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism.
