Look no further – we have the job for you! **Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine** is seeking applicants for an **Inpatient Veterinary Assistant** to work in the Intermediate Care (IMC ), Intensive Care Unit (ICU ), and Emergency Room (ER) section of our **Bailey Small Animal Teaching Hospital** . The individual in this position will work directly with board-certified emergency and critical care veterinarians and rotating intern doctors to help facilitate quality care and patient flow through theIMC ,ICU , and ER.

     

    This is a monthly rotating swing shift position.

     

    Mon – Thurs 4:00 pm – 2:00 am; Fri – Sun 1:00 pm – 2:00 am

    Essential Functions

    + Assists with administering treatments and monitoring patients admitted inIMC orICU , Observes and records vital data, abnormal signs, body weight, food/water intake of animals, and collects and labels specimens and perform treatments and administer medications as prescribed by primary veterinarian.

    + Performs and demonstrates veterinary care techniques and procedures related to emergency and critical care medicine.

    + Assists veterinarians in the care of patients requiring advanced procedures and life-saving techniques includingCPR , mechanical ventilation and dialysis.

    + Inspects facilities, equipment, and supplies daily, as well as observes health status of animals, environmental conditions, temperature, and sanitation.

    + Perform job duties with speed and accuracy and work as essential personnel, providing care for patients after hours, on weekends and holidays.

    + Assists with emergency triage and stabilization of patients presenting through the Emergency service.

    + May be responsible for, or assist in, billing clients, inputting charges, and/or similar tasks.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Depending upon a combination of education and experience, the finalist selected for this position will be hired as a Veterinary Assistant – Inpatient and assigned levels II orIII .

     

    **Level II:** Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 2 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

    **LevelIII :** Requires a high school diploma or equivalent plus 4 years of experience working in a veterinary hospital environment.

     

    Degrees accepted in lieu of years of experience.

     

    Minimum Skills, License, and Certifications

     

    Minimum Skills and Abilities

     

    Knowledge of processes, methods, and procedures associated with veterinary medicine.

     

    Minimum Technology Skills

     

    Minimum License and Certifications
