Purpose of Classification
The City of Boynton Beach is seeking an intern who is talented, driven and has a genuine interest in contributing to the success of the Utilities Department .Candidates for this position will work closely with the Utilities GIS Analyst .This internship program is set to be on-site, and Candidates for this position must be able to adapt to and work in varied environments, including indoors, outdoors, and project locations. Paid internship program is offered to recently honorably discharged Veterans, currently enrolled or recently graduated students. This program offers an opportunity to gain hands-on experience and a realistic preview of what it is like to work in local government. The City of Boynton Beach is committed to administering a successful, efficient, and inclusive program that will allow interns to make a positive contribution to the community while gaining valuable work experience. Interns will be exposed to the following:
+ Gain professional experience in local government.
+ Have an opportunity to rotate through City departments.
+ Learn about the mission and vision of the City.
+ Experience networking and professional development opportunities.
+ Participate in a group project that will be presented to City Management and City Commission.
+ Attend periodic lunch and learns with the Human Resources and Risk Management Department. These workshops will teach students interviewing skills, workplace etiquette, public speaking, and financial sustainability and student loan payoff advice.
Essential Functions
+ Support citywide GPS data collection efforts by operating Trimble DA2 GNSS receivers paired with iPads/iPhones in the field, ensuring accurate mapping of potable water, sanitary sewer, reclaimed water, raw water, and stormwater assets.
+ Capture, process, and maintain utility asset data in ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Online, and ArcGIS Pro, following established data collection standards and QA/QC procedures.
+ Collaborate with utility staff and consultant field teams to integrate new GPS-collected data into the City’s enterprise GIS for asset management and operational use.
+ Assist with map production and data visualization by creating web maps, dashboards, and reports that support engineering, operations, and maintenance activities.
+ Conduct data quality checks to verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency of utility infrastructure data, documenting issues and assisting with corrections.
+ Provide technical and logistical support to field crews, including equipment setup, troubleshooting Trimble/mobile devices, and communicating project updates to the GIS Coordinator.
Minimum Qualifications
Individuals applying to the Internship Program must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college, or university or have graduated within the past two years. Additionally, all applicants must know that candidates will not work remotely. All applicants must hold a clean driving record and full driving license.
Students must be enrolled in a GIS certification class, undergraduate or graduate program –Geographic Information Systems and an Advanced Certificate in Geographic Information Systems Communications, Operations Management, Information Technology, or a related discipline or interdisciplinary program.
Solid PC skills and the ability to use Microsoft Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel); and work independently.

+ Exceptional organizational skills, oral and written communication skills, and attention to detail.
+ Strong quantitative skills and the ability to multitask.
+ Ability to establish effective working relationships with City employees, residents, and community partners.
+ Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions on moderately complex matters and complete assigned tasks with minimal direction.
+ Knowledge of and enthusiasm for establishing and maintaining ArcGIS database quality control and quality assurance procedures.
