    Job Title: Senior Mechanical Engineer

     

    Reports to: Manager, Mechanical Engineer

     

    Department: Engineering

     

    Work Model: Full-time, On-site – No Travel Required

     

    Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am-5pm

    Job Summary:

    This position is responsible for the design, development, verification of assigned mechanical components to include sheet-metal / machined-metal parts and assemblies, and theoretical mechanical concepts required to integrate mechanical and electrical components into one assembly. In addition, the Senior Mechanical Engineering will also be held accountable for peer reviews, department mentoring, and leading small project groups.

    Essential Functions

    + Maintains advanced working knowledge of Crystal Group’s mechanical design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Inventor) for efficient conversion of technical requirements into schematic diagrams and assembly drawings.

    + Maintains advanced understanding of metal parts machining, fabrication, and assembly processes.

    + Maintains advanced working knowledge of packaging techniques applied to high performance electronics for use in harsh and demanding environments.

    + Maintains advanced working knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the design field. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.

    + Recommends the proper procedures, processes, templates, and tools to correctly perform the task assigned.

    + Provides technical assistance for the building and testing of new products and systems

    + Provides advanced troubleshooting support for products in Manufacturing and Technical Services

    + Reviews mechanical drawings and designs to ensure adherence to established specifications and standards, as assigned

    + Ensure designs are producible and error free

    + Provides advanced component-level review and in-depth troubleshooting support for product in Manufacturing and in the field as well as Sales department assistance

    + Assist the systems team in researching, designing, and evaluating systems and/or processes to meet customer requirements

    + Write mechanical performance requirements for product development or engineering projects

    + Perform detailed mechanical or fluid calculations to compute and establish manufacturing standards or specifications

    + Utilize engineering theory and simulation models to assess feasibility, sustainability, and operating condition effects

    + Compile data and write reports regarding existing or potential mechanical engineering studies or projects

    + Assists in the training and mentoring of new hires for the department

    + Maintain a high level of quality of designs with few errors

     

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    Knowledge:

    + Advanced knowledge of 3D modeling techniques

    + Proficient with Finite Element Analysis and computational fluid dynamics

    + Proficient with Computer Numerical Control design requirements

    + Advanced knowledge of computer hardware and systems integration

    + Experience working in a fast-paced environment

    + Advanced knowledge of mechanical component industry standards

    + Advanced understanding of commonly practiced concepts related to Mechanical Engineering theory

    Skills:

    + Works well both independently and in a team environment and is willing to change priorities as needed

    + Multitasking skills including the ability to work across multiple software platforms

    + Use hand tools (caliper, micrometer, feeler gauge, fluid pressure meter, infrared thermal cameras, etc.)

    Abilities:

    + Inspect and troubleshoot computer related hardware components at an assembly level

    + Ability to use various software programs related to engineering theory (AutoDesk inventor, AutoCAD, Ansys simulation software)

    + Create, read, and compare technical data sheets

    + Effectively lead small (1-3 member) teams on well-defined projects with moderate supervision, oversight, and coaching provided

    + Identify departmental process deficiencies, propose viable solutions, and implement appropriate corrective action(s) with moderate managerial support provided

    Required Qualification

    + Must be a US Person (US Citizen, person granted US Permanent Resident Card or any individual who is granted status as a "protected person”)

    + Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering or related field required and 5+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience or at least 15+ years of Mechanical Engineering experience in lieu of a degree

     

    Preferred Qualification

     

    + 5+ years of mechanical component design or manufacturing experience

    + 5+ years of CAD software related work

    + Extensive knowledge of computer equipment (PC, firewall, switch, data acquisition systems, UPS, server rack equipment, etc.)

    + Extensive knowledge of harsh mechanical environments

    + 1+ year of leadership experience

     

    Working Conditions

     

    Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Occasional exposure to manufacturing floor and testing environments. May require lifting up to 25 lbs, standing for extended periods during product testing.
