Who we’re looking for:
**The UW Medicine Department of Laboratory Medicine & Pathology (DLMP) in Seattle, WA has a fantastic opportunity for a Manager of Program Operations with the Revenue Team** ! We are looking for an individual who will develop, implement, and manage the overall strategic and operating plan for the Reference Lab billing unit in DLMP, with a specialized focus on Genetic/Molecular testing.

What you’ll contribute:
_Revenue Cycle Operations_
+ Perform highly complex management-level duties supporting all aspects of revenue cycle and billing operations for the UW Medicine Reference Lab with particular focus on Genetic/Molecular testing and Client Billing/Support. This manager is responsible for the daily operations of the following aspects of revenue cycle, including preauthorization programming, registration, claims, payment, and credits, insurance follow-up, client follow-up, and patient accounts and inquiry.
_Staff Management_
+ Lead the Reference Lab Genetic/Molecular PreAuth and billing teams toward common objectives and goals by providing clear direction, seeking input form others, ensuring staff have adequate resources and training, and articulating a vision which motivates others.
+ Develop job descriptions, over recruitment, hiring, orientation and training, manage workflow, set standards, recommend disciplinary actions if needed, conduct annual performance evaluations, coordinate schedules, approve leave, and lead team building and staff development.
+ Develop, implement and maintain programs for monitoring staff performance, productivity and quality assurance.
+ Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintain confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients. Access and use the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties for authorized purposes. Ensure all staff comply with the above and any other regulations such as HIPAA, GAAP and FDCPA.
_Strategic Development and Program, Initiative, and Project Management_
+ Lead multiple complex projects and initiatives concurrently that are related to the ever-changing world of genetic/molecular testing. These projects include working with multiple teams inside and outside UW Medicine and involve aspects of billing, pricing, prior authorization, clinical and reimbursement policies, costs estimations, ROI, staffing needs, risk management, compliance requirements, as well as any other aspect necessary to complete the project.
+ Partner with leaders and participate on various committees across UW Medicine to develop and implement consistent, compliant and patient enhancing system-wide revenue cycle polices, standards and workflows. This may also include selection of vendors across UW Medicine.
+ Manage long-term programs critical to collecting revenue, including serving as the Administrative Lead of the Medicare Genetic & Molecular MolDX program that manages required Z codes for billing as well as project managing the Technical Assessment process for submitting medical necessity and other documentation to have testing approved by Medicare (which also affects other payers).
+ Must be able to prepare and deliver presentations at various meetings with representatives from inside and outside UW Medicine. This includes participants from front line staff to senior leaders from revenue cycle and clinical areas.
+ Partner with the DLMP Genetic/Molecular laboratory and division leadership to develop and implement strategies for growing the Reference Lab programs and improving both the client and patient experience. This includes providing analysis, reporting and recommendations.
_Data Analysis & Reporting_
+ Review and analyze revenue cycle metrics and reporting to determine opportunities for improvement within the Reference Lab billing team, resulting in cost efficiencies, increase in patient/client satisfaction, increase in employee satisfaction, and improved revenue cycle performance.
+ Development of ongoing reports, databases, and other data sources, including the development of various methodologies and coordination with other analytics and IT teams
_Genetic/Molecular Testing Policy & Process Development & Improvement_
+ Serve as a subject matter expert on genetic/molecular test billing and reimbursement. This includes reviewing Medicare/CMS, commercial payer and industry focus group polices and billing changes. Partner with DLMP leadership to update billing polices and processes to maximize patient experience, revenue and growth opportunities.
+ Partner with UW Medicine Compliance and DLMP Compliance/Regulatory affairs to ensure compliant billing practices
_Vendor & IT System Management_
+ Partner with external vendors which provide and support the Reference Lab billing system and ensure patient statement and payment systems are being used to their maximum ability and performance. Ensure all enhancement and upgrades are implemented in a timely manner.
+ Develop and improve reporting capabilities.
+ Serve as a super-user for development of Epic in relation to DLMP genetic/molecular and client billing.
What you’ll need:
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
AND
Six (6) to eight (8) years of related experience, including:
+ At least two (2) years of strong supervisory experience, including project management, and fiscal and lead responsibilities, preferably in an academic or healthcare-related setting.
+ Strong experience with preauthorization and billing for genetic/molecular testing
+ Previous experience in management or healthcare billing and AR, preferably in an academic setting.
+ Experience working with outside laboratories/clients.
+ Experience with laboratory testing, preferably of a genetic/molecular nature.
+ Demonstrated project and program management skills.
+ Demonstrated excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office software with UW fiscal and personnel procedures
+ Demonstrated problem-solving skills and fiscal skills, strong detail orientation and ability to adeptly manage multiple priorities and timelines.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may substitute for the stated requirements.
Desired qualifications:
+ Experience with laboratory or medical billing.
+ Experience with laboratory information systems, such as Sunquest and PowerPath.
+ In-depth knowledge of federal and state regulations as they pertain to patient, insurance, and client billing and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
+ At least one (1) year of experience overseeing a Medicare MolDx program, including obtaining Z codes and coordinating the Technical Assessment process.
+ Ability to compile statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to such matters such as cash receipts, expenditures, and accounts payable and receivables.
+ Experience managing union/represented staff.
+ Proven ability to foster credibility and establish collaborative working relationships.
+ Strong organizational skills and ability to set priorities with high attention to detail.
+ Ability to manage multiple competing priorities concurrently as evidenced by timely completion of multiple tasks.
+ Ability to work with diverse people with tact, diplomacy, and discretion and sensitivity.
