Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$30.010 - $37.510 - $45.010

What You Will Do

In the role of supporting the management of the day-to-day operations of the Department of Pharmacy's investigational drug services, you will work under the supervision of the Investigational Pharmacist. This position requires providing technical knowledge, skill, and expertise to ensure the efficient functioning of the investigational drug services. Your responsibilities may include assisting with the preparation/sterile compounding and dispensing of investigational drugs, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. Your technical support will be crucial in facilitating research and clinical trials involving investigational medications.

Required Qualifications

+ California Pharmacy Technician License (TCH) - CA State Board of Pharmacy -REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications

+ H.S. Diploma or Equivalent

+ 1 Year Experience in hospital pharmacy environment

+ Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) - Pharmacy Technician Certification Board -PREFERRED

Essential Functions

+ DispensingDispensing: Assures smooth operations of investigational drug dispensing by accurately and within designated time frames, processing new medication orders for dispensing by selecting and preparing the correct medication. Assists with report and list generation.Adheres to all legal and pharmacy procedures, including pharmacist check of all work prior to dispensing.Assures that incoming phone calls are answered promptly and with courtesy.Assures that all tasks are accomplished during shift.Prioritizes new orders/requests and enters them into the computer (where applicable) for verification by the pharmacist.Accurately prepares and labels first and subsequent doses for pharmacist check prior to dispensing.Prepares pharmacist checked medications for delivery.Helps to resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

+ DocumentationAll invoices are verified for accuracy and all follow-up issues are resolved.Organizes and coordinates periodic inventories to assure that investigational stock levels are appropriate for demand.Reviews documentation logs for accuracy and reports any discrepancies to Investigational Pharmacist.

+ IV preparation managementPrepares all IV admixtures in strict accordance with established guidelines.Properly handles and prepares investigational agents using the appropriate precautions in the Biological Safety Cabinet (BSC).Organizes work load to accomplish all admixtures tasks in time to meet established pick up time by study coordinators and/or couriers.Performs primary check of labeling to ascertain completeness of label according to established proceduresAlways obtains pharmacist check prior to dispensing IV admixtures.Responds to special admixture requests to meet criteria established for STAT, ASAP and NOW IV admixtures.Maintains IV area in a clean/orderly manner and restocks prior to the end of shift

+ Inventory controlReceives, unpacks, verifies, logs and accurately stores investigational drugs before end of shift.Shelves are kept organized at all times.Notifies vendors of any shipping error, and provides follow-up until error is corrected.Requests for special items are processed within 24 hours. Each order is followed up until the item arrives.

+ Medication deliveryDelivers medications to appropriate care area within designated time frames.Routinely informs nursing of investigational medication delivery and assures that all storage requirements are met.Responds to special delivery requests to meet criteria established for STAT, ASAP and NOW orders.

+ Medication safety and useParticipates in surveillance initiatives such as: medication safety event reporting etc.Proactively identifies potential medication safety improvement opportunities such as look alike, sound alike medication storage and packaging issues, delivery / storage / security related issues, inventory management issues etc.Proactively participates in the development of medication safety initiatives to prevent occurrence or reoccurrence of medication safety events.Demonstrates awareness of medication safety communications delivered by pharmacy management and safe medication practice pharmacist.
