Job Title: Bilingual Phlebotomist Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced bilingual phlebotomist with over two years of recent experience in phlebotomy. The ideal candidate will be proficient with straight needles and must be comfortable performing venipunctures independently from day one. Strong communication skills and reliability are essential, and fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

Responsibilities

+ Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and handle decontamination tasks.

+ Update patient information accurately.

+ Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

+ Clearly explain the venipuncture process and other specimen collection methods, such as urine or fecal collection, in a courteous manner.

+ Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

+ Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.

+ Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

+ Ensure accuracy by checking all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts.

+ Package specimens for transport and store them according to required temperatures.

+ Place samples in appropriate collection containers/tubes and follow procedures to maintain specimen integrity during transport.

Essential Skills

+ 2+ years of recent phlebotomy experience

+ Proficiency with straight needles

+ Strong communication skills

+ Bilingual in English and Spanish

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Minimum 1 year of experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite

Work Environment

The position is located at a Patient Service Center (PSC) in Far Rockaway, Queens, which serves approximately 20 patients per day, primarily Spanish-speaking. This is a one-person site, requiring the candidate to be comfortable working independently, including opening and closing the site. Reliability and punctuality are crucial. The work hours are Monday to Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, with every other Saturday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. Hours may vary depending on the location.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Far Rockaway, New York.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
