    _The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job. Individual annual salaries/hourly rates will be set within the job's compensation range, and will be determined by considering factors including, but not limited to, market data, education, experience, qualifications, expertise of the individual, and internal equity considerations._

    Responsibilities:

    Individual will direct research by executing small, complex research projects related to major aspects of overall laboratory research goals, specifically focused on enteric bacterial pathogens and eukaryotic model systems. Must be able to design, conduct, and interpret experiments independently with input from the principle investigator and regular communication regarding project goals. Individual must also perform lab managerial duties, including equipment maintenance, ordering, and supply organization. Supervision of others may be required. Individual must also have strong writing skills and experience with manuscript and figure preparation

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Design and interpret experiments related to virulence gene regulation and pathogenic mechanisms of atypical Vibrio cholerae strains encoding a Type 3 Secretion System. Formulates research methods and approaches to answer specific questions aligned with overall laboratory research goals.

    + Scientific writing for manuscripts including design and construction of figures, must be facile with Adobe suite and Prism software.

    + Supervision of students and training of laboratory members as needed. Serves as a resource for standard protocols, troubleshooting, and data interpretation.

    + Perform experiments using techniques that include standard microbiology and molecular biology approaches, microscopy, cell signaling assays, immunofluorescence staining, Western analysis of proteins, gene expression assays for bacterial and eukaryotic systems, qRT-PCR, tissue culture model systems, plasmid and strain design and construction. Writes protocols.

    + Lab management responsibilities, including maintenance of records, ordering, biosafety compliance. Coordinates with and contacts outside vendors and technical representatives for routine equipment maintenance and supply inquiries.

    + Informed about trends in field by reading professional journals, attends/participates in lab meetings, and, as appropriate, external meetings and seminars.

    + Other job duties as assigned.

    MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

    + Doctoral degree and 2 years of relevant postdoctoral training required

    + Or equivalent combination of education and experience

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

    + Bacterial genetics of enteric pathogens and eukaryotic model systems, confocal microscopy, assay development, data interpretation and presentation. Protein biochemistry, cell biology/cell signaling.Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment as needed required.
